Hey hey! I'm on the Paper Issues Blog today with my take on Scraplift Sunday week 2! Check this out! Kelly made it and its incredibly fun. It was fun too lift too!

So here's what I did! OMG I had so much fun with this page? Want to know why? Well, let's start with my photo. I got to meet one of my fellow  team mates! Yes! How cool, is that! So I had to some to come up with just the right supplies right?

I did! My Minds Eye Good Vibes has just the vibe I was looking for!  I mean, its for girls right?!?  Look at all those bright colors and fun icons! They were made for me! Camera? √ Flowers? √ Cool fun words? √ 

Well, after I laid out all my stuff, I cut and stitched my title using the Thick Paint Alpha cut file. Then came the fun part which was tucking and layering all of the die cuts, stickers, and extra little bits. Since my title was smaller, I extended all the embellishments!  I may have over done it but I couldn't stop myself. The more I looked at my supplies, the more I found to play with!

I even put a brad in the center of the flower!

I Live For This

Hey there! Today I'm sharing a layout on the Paper Issues blog for our Opening Day challenge.

Oh I couldn't pass this one up. No way! Baseball is my favorite sport and has been since I was younger. What a better topic for my page today than, well, Opening Day!  I get so excited as spring approaches. I just cant wait!  Every year on Opening Day we have a baseball party complete with hot dogs, Cracker jacks and apple pie.

Ok, well, enough about that. Let's get down to business. I grabbed some My Minds Eye Blast Off for this! What? Space theme for a baseball page! Yes! I think I will! I love to use products in different, unintended ways! The bright primary colors in this will be perfect.  

I started with the Have a Ball cut file that Made into a border. Look how cool all those papers look behind them. Who needs a standard red & white ball anyway? Next up, the title. How about another cut file?  This time Lower Case Open Alpha which Cut from the Galaxy stripe paper.

To round out this page, I had to add some A Flair for Buttons flair. It was one more round element and I had the two perfect ones! Today from the Hexagon Love Boy set and the Heart from the Face Flair set.  Lastly, you know me, I need to add all my little bits! All the dots are brads and Nuvo drops!

Back, Back, Back!

Welll hello!  I have a project on the  Paper Issues blog today for the awesome new Put It on an Angle challenge. Now I know, you are looking at my page thinking, angles? where are the angles?  It's so round! Well, I'll just tell you a little about what I did here.

I like to buy paper.  I may have Issues. It's a fact. My boys are getting older. Also a fact. Truly, I have no need for planets and rocket themed papers anymore. But I needed it! (Issues) It's a good thing that I like to take themes and ideas and put them to work for me interpreting them in other ways. So really, here is a perfect example. Yep, rockets and planets for umm...swimming? Yes I did.

But I have to tell you, the real reason for my having this  My Minds Eye Blast Off  collection was these photos right here! My boy is a back stroke specialist!  I caught his take off (see what I did there) frame by frame. Well, I couldn't just choose one photo out of the group could I? What did I do, well, I put them at an angle!

This My Minds Eye Blast Off  collection caught my eye for another reason. This Plaentoids paper. It screamed "fussy cut" at me.  So I did. I cut it apart, then put it back together into another shape. Itall of those works well as a home for all of those photos!

Fussy cutting also enabled me to use the rockets as die cuts, which I embellished with the puffy stickers  and 6x12 accent stickers.  I love the holographic elements. It makes it plays well with the water in the photos

So this is it. the very last swim meet ever for him. I wanted to take in every moment. I wanted to permanently remember some of my favorite things about him swimming. For years he has been best at backstroke (regardless of what he says). I was so happy to capture his takeoff in sequence. His takeoffs are amazing. He goes so far under water and I don't know how he does it. I have loved every minute of his meets and will miss watching him swim.

Good morning! Sundays are for Scraplifting at Paper Issues and I chose a fun one for you today from Anna. I liked her design. It's refreshing.

I put my own spin on it by pulling the papers into the center for two reason. Onc, I used my new Stitch Happy swing machine around the edge of the paper. Second, the MME Hey Mister tool chipboard and die cut pieces are rather large. I needed more space to be able to use them. 

When I was about 9, my Dad bought my sister and I a tool kit. It was in a wood box, and all the tools  inside had wood handles, the edges painted blue. He taught us how to use every tool in that box, including how to use a saw on a horse. He said we should know how to use tools and how to fix or make basic things with them. When I moved into an apartment. he bought me that electric drill. One of my nicknames around my house is Tool Time Tina, because I am not afraid to tackle a problem on my own. The toy in the photo is something I made for my son. I fashioned it after something he has at school that he loves. I now have one happy kid. So, thanks Dad.

He Knows

Good morning! There's a new Product Spotlight on the Paper Issues blog! Today we are highlighting the new collections by My Minds Eye: Hey Mister, Palm Beach, In Bloom and Meow.

Im using the Hey Mister collection. It's definitely a masculine line, and it has a bit of everything. Dogs, Dads, and umm...astronomy! I began with the Hey There paper. I cut it apart, then layered it over card stock. I got the idea for the title while I was moving the photo around. I covered up the 'Y' and was left with the HE. I went through all the stickers, die cuts and chipboard to find the right embellishments for the page. I have to say the little puffy stickers are my favorite!

I want to know how dogs know what we feel. This is my dog with my son, moments after I told him my Grandmother, his Great Grandmother had passed away. Our dog climbed over to him, put his head on his lap, and stayed there. He just knew something was wrong.

Well good morning to you! For sure March has arrived like a lion. I feel like I'm going non stop! Anyway, I did stop long enough to use the new FREE cut file for Cut It Up Saturday. It's available in the Paper Issues shop today. 

This is a 2 part file. I used the star backgound for this layout. I began by spraying bronze, gold and silver mist on card stock before I cut it out. I do recommend letting the paper dry completely before cutting. I learned the hard way, I was a bit too anxious to put my page together. Anyway, after cutting, I grabbed the new My Minds Eye Hey Mister. This line is an interesting mixture of motif. Space, male and dogs. Ok. I used some of the space motif. The page is backed by the Galaxy Guy paper. i also used both sides of the Geo Gee paper under my photo. I love the chipboard and stickers in this collection. Oddly they seem to be pretty versatile. I needed to add a little contrast,  so I added some colored stars from my stash. 

The super moon. At the last minute, my son decided he wanted to go see it. Well, the place to go is the high school parking lot. It's at the top of a hill. I swear the moon was so close we could touch it. Well, that's what my camera made me feel like anyway. It took several tries, but iFinally got my camera on the right setting, Of the hundreds of photos I snapped, this is the best one.

Hey there! It's going to be a busy week around here. The new issue of CREATE magazine, published  by Scrapbook Generation is out today. This magazine is always filled with tremendous creativity and inspiration. 

In each issue are opportunities for readers to be published in future issues by creating projects based on any of several sketches included in the magazine. 

I am fortunate to have my 2 page layout selected for publication in the May issue. The general foundation of the sketch is there, but I changed a few of the photo sizes and placements to suit my needs. 

I was playing with Instagram photos and hashtags while on vacation last year. I stole an idea from Matt Lauer and the TODAY show.  Using BeachGal,  my online alter ego, I  landed upon "Where in the World is BeachGal" or, #WITWIB for short.  The photos are snippets of some of my favorite things and places from our trip.

Inspired By...

We are trying something a little different this month at ScrapStuff'z Inspired by. Instead of one inspiration photo, we have two to choose from.

I created a layout inspired by each of the photos.  This first one is my interpretation of the office supplies photo:

Nope, it's not a first day of school photo. It's the last day of school. If you don't know me by now, I have to do something a little but off the beaten path...So really, all of the items in the photo are put away for the summer, not to be seen for 3 months!

 I used some of the items in the photo on the page such as pencils (stickers at top and bottom), paper clip (yellow arrow) and notebook paper (the background) and of course, lots of letters and numbers. (Isn't that washi tape awesome?!?) Ideas for this page also came from Scrap Our Stash  and My Scraps & More, use two collections from the same manufacturer, but at least 1 1/2 years old. I used Basic Grey- Hey You and Bowties. I really like when I can pull inspiration from several different sources.

There are a lot of photos on here! I couldn't eliminate any one of them. He tries so hard! Each photo shows how hard and how motivated he was to get to these balloons! He was only supposed to take one, but he wanted them all. The salesperson saw how happy he was and sent us home with the whole bunch. Did I mention this happened twice???

How did I get to balloons from a Ferris Wheel? They both go up in the air! He's also looking up in the photo much like a spectator looks up to see who is at the top of the Ferris Wheel. I did choose papers with bright colors inspired by the bright colors in the photos as well.

There is a new article on the Get It Scrapped blog today. The article talks about creative ways to use negative space in your scrapbook pages.  I contributed this page about a promise to my son of getting Slurpees since we missed free Slurpee day.

When working in negative space, I find using larger space easier to work with. I cut the design out then set it aside. I used the remaining cut out piece as a mask and sprayed ink over it in 3 colors. Each time I changed colors, I rotated the paper.  I laid the die cut back down on the misted background and this is the result; color mixed with white.  In the negative space you see peeks of color, a lot of color and almost no color.  I achieved the effect I was looking for, a slight mirror of the Slurpee cup.

Always Radiate Sunshine

Hi there.  I can't believe it's the end of July already. Where has this summer gone? Well, seeing as it is Monday, that means it's time for a new sketch challenge at Let's Get Sketchy.  We have an awesome sketch today that is easy to use.

Here is what I did with it.

It's really a simple page. with little details. I decided to go black & white with this one so I could highlight the red shirt in the photo. I extended the photos across the page, but pretty much eliminated the strip under them. Instead I used the die cut arrows on two sides of the page. The journaling around the edge of the page seemed to act as an additional embellishment, since they are minimal. I also did something new; drew a white frame on the photo.

Good Morning. I have a LO today for the latest Child's Play Challenges reveal. This weeks theme is Classic Games and it's a good one.

COOTIES!

My son loved this game, however he much preferred carrying around the heads. He'd make them in to  silly faces, using the legs as ears or the mouth. The photos I chose reminded me of this. I used some really close up head shots of the boys.

I used a sketch and some simple patterns so the photos would be the feature on the page. They are every bit as goofy as they appear here.

I love photos of my boys with different expressions on their faces. I should probably edit more and use only one, but I knew here he didn't want to smile, but did anyway. I didn't stray much from the original design. I did use larger photos, and eliminated the circular elements.  I kept the embellishments simple here because I wanted to feature the title "(Love) this face", from A Cutt Above.

Hello! Just a quick one today. I'm sharing for Get it Scrapped today. Creating layouts with still life photos. I do this a lot. More than I thought. Most are random and silly like the color of my toes after a pedicure or a pretty flower I saw on a walk. Some though, are random, but really have a lot of meaning to them. Like this one today. 

In a nutshell. I celebrated getting my braces off with a trip to Nordstrom to buy new lipstick to show off my new smile.

Why is this significant?  I have an irrational fear of the dentist. I have since I was 19 after a bad experience getting my wisdom teeth out.  As a reward for being brave,  I would buy myself a treat each time I go to the dentist.  The fact that I had braces was a milestone in over coming my fear.  Here, the lipstick is my treat, and a representation of my story.

A quick tip: When I take still life shots, I play around with the angle of the photo to give it a little interest, as I've done here.

 Hi and good Wednesday to you.   Today is the first reveal of the month for Child's Play Challenges. And it's definitely a throwback. Even though it's Wednesday...COLORFORMS!

I knew I wasn't going to look deep for inspiration on this one.  I wanted to use the shapes and colors. For this one I actually chose the papers and design before I chose the photos. The design is based on a sketch from Stuck?! Sketches. There are many visible circles on the page. There are triangular elements and a few rectangles. All the papers are primary colors.  

It was fun to put together this way. Once I decided on the photos, the title came to me quickly. I added the camera details. They seemed to be a great choice to go with the title. These photos are from the summer of 2009. Not the best summer of our lives, but somehow, seeing his smile makes it all better.

Good Monday to you!  That means it's time for another challenge at Let's Get Sketchy.  

Great sketch right? I think so too. There is so much to do with it!  It was a great one for yet another Bar Mitzvah LO. I was able to keep it simple, like the rest of the pages in the album.  I'm almost done, I promise.

I flipped the sketch and added some extra vertical strips, as well as an embellishment cluster. The title blends into the papers on purpose, in order to keep the focus on the photo.

Hi there! Happy Wednesday. Wednesdays are good days. It's reveal day at Child's Play Challenges.  We have a fun challenge for you. It's Classic Movie week! In case you aren't familiar with Child's Play, the idea is to create a LO inspired by the classic toys, movies, book and games that are chosen for each challenge.

Ok, what I remember most about Peter Pan and my childhood was seeing it live on stage with Sandy Duncan as Peter Pan.  I couldn't think of anything to use to tell that story, so I went a completely different route. Color. Green to be precise. 

One of the benefits of waiting until the last minute to do an assigned project is getting to search around other blogs for inspiration! I started with a sketch from Boys Rule Scrapbook kits.  Then I saw Scrap Our Stash has a challenge to use monochromatic colors and 5 different embellishments. I had already decided to use green on the page. Well, I used ONLY green as well as, washi, paint, mist, enamel dots, bling and sequins.

Good Morning on this fine Memorial Day.  Seeing as it is Monday, that means there's a new sketch challenge up at Let's Get Sketchy.

Another fantastic sketch from the talented Laura Whitaker, but one, I have to say, that took me well out of my comfort zone.  I like my 4x6 photos all grouped together. I had a difficult time making this sketch feel cohesive to me. While I was working on it , I felt like it was disconnected. Don't get me wrong, I love how others can use sketches like this and create beautiful pages. For me it was a challenge, but I embraced it and am actually happy I did.

This page is all about me, my love of Baseball, and celebrating it's Opening Day.  We celebrate opening day every year with the same meal: hot dogs, fries, peanuts, with Baby Ruth candy bars and apple pie for dessert.  All of the word stickers are a play on that fact. The colors are bright, the background is playful and full of energy. I used the arrows and the stitched outline to help move the eye around the page. They were the last elements I added, and made me feel like the page was connected, and flowed together.

Oh the joy of an hour stolen on a weekend day. I snuck up to my room, sat at my desk, and quickly, got this page together. It helps though, when I have a starting point.  I started with this sketch from Boys Rule Scrapbook Kits and the product choices from Scrap & Play for the Word Play challenge, use products for each letter in the word FLOWERS

I am still working on the Bar Mitzvah album, so this is another one checked off the list. The sketch was perfect. I am trying to keep things simple. I reversed the side of the page because the people in the photo are facing the other way. I made a layered banner to give the page some interest and added a snippet of paper in the corner. What an easy sketch to translate!

As for product, F-Fancy Pants, L-layers of papers, O-Orange card stock, W-wood veneer, E-enamel dots, R-recycled paper (the journaling that is hidden under the clip is written on the cardboard from the packaging of the enamel dots) and/or rectangle shaped photo, S-sequins

He Plays to Discover

Good morning! I'm happy to be back so soon.I've actually been very busy creating, but too busy is my life to take time to write. So, here it is Monday morning again. That means it's a reveal day at Let's Get Sketchy.

This week we have a really cool and different sketch from the talented sketch designer Jenessa.

I will admit, I was very afraid of this sketch.  You have to have realized by now that I am a 4x6 gal. I knew it was going to be a huge challenge, so I got to work, looking for ways to use this sketch.  Well, lucky for me, while playing with my younger son, a photo opportunity came along.  I decided to tackle the sketch using the photos. Let's just quote a favorite TV character of mine. "Challenge accepted" (How I Met Your Mother)

What started as a struggle, quickly turned into a fun puzzle for me. I thoroughly enjoyed piecing all the elements of this page together.  I applied some PhotoPlay into this layout. I played with some photo editing tools by fading out the color of the first and second photos. The idea being to give the focus to the photo with the most color. It is the most important. The page is busy and full of energy, playing off the idea of a child playing with toys. It is vibrant and colorful, again reinforcing that theme. The title is small, but meaningful, telling part of the story in the photos. Overall, I have to say, I am really happy with how this turned out. It is colorful, playful and full of meaning.

After all of my hesitation, I'm glad I tried something outside of my box. It was a fun sketch to use!  I hope you will try it too, then link it up at Let's Get Sketchy.

As you make your way along our hop to visit each of our DT blogs, you will find a sketch challenge along will possible twists.  Complete as many challenges as you can and return to LGS to upload your entry.  For each challenge you complete please upload and tag according to that Design Team Member's instruction.  Once you have completed your layout, please head back over to the LGS website to upload your entry. Please tag your entry: BH2DEVRA.   The more you play, the better your chances of winning this great prize courtesy of Creative Embellishments!  ANY PROJECT NOT PROPERLY TAGGED WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE DRAWING!!!  At the end of hop we will draw a winner so the more entries you submit the better your chance of winning a wonderful prize from Creative Embellishments!

Please make sure you visit the entire team, as each member will be hosting a sketch challenge with their own little twist.  So although you may see the same sketch twice, they will be "different".

This is the sketch I chose and LO I created.  I would like you to create a layout using the sketch you see below.  My twist is to use at least 3 different patterned papers on your layout.
