My Happy Place

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Hi there! I have a page to share for today's Picture This reveal. The challenge elements are:

1 PHOTO + GREEN + FLOWER CLUSTER + BUTTERFLY

I went for a very pink and feminine page, and I had a lot of fun creating it. This photo has been sitting in my pile for a while. These elements seemed to be the right ones to put this page together.  I used several patterned papers to matte the photo. Then I cut the flowers and a few of the leaves on the Silhouette. Using them to frame the photo diagonally, draws focus to them as well as the photo. I liked being able to plant the butterfly right into the flower cluster.

Tulips. I love them. Being able to see them growing and blooming in their natural environment is breathtaking. Cliche? Maybe. But true.  I sat down in the middle of a field and admired their beauty. Beside the beach, I can't imagine anywhere else I can call my happy place.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. I always have more to share, so come back again soon. Sadly, this will be the last reveal for Picture This  The blog will close at the end of the month.

My First Tree

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Hey there! Welcome to December and out first challenge for the month at Picture This.   Here are the challenge details:

3 PHOTOS +FRAME + CHRISTMAS COLORS + CHRISTMAS TREE

Ok then. This was hard for me. Mostly because I didn't grow up celebrating Christmas. So, Christmas Tree photos are not in abundance in my photo library. I actually had permission for this assignment to use any tree, but while I was digging through photos, I found these gems.  This was our first Christmas together, my first time picking out a tree, and first time decorating it. I really did laugh when told I had to water the tree. What? I said? It's already dead!

Since the photos were the hard part, the rest was easy after that. I grabbed a few red and green paper scraps and the ONE Christmas themed sticker sheet I had. (It's a good thing I saved it from that warehouse box I got last year). So I went all out on the Christmasy colors and theme for this page. It was fun because it's not my norm. I really like that the kraft paper gives it an even more traditional feel. The cork frames play into that as well.

Thanks for taking a look at my creative view today. I've go more to share, so stop by again soon.

Brunch Bunch

Sunday, November 15, 2015

Well Hello, hello and welcome to the mid month challenge reveal at Picture This. For this next challenge, we are asking you to use:

1 PHOTO +CARDSTOCK+GOLD

Sounds good to me! So why did I have such a hard time with this?  Because I had too much to choose from that's why. I chose this photo a while ago, but got stuck on how I wanted to scrap it. Then along came another challenge, from Paper Issues. I put the two together and voila. A cardstock base, one great photo, and lots of gold...alphas, thinkers and transparencies.

I have finally found myself with a good group of friends. We get together regularly for brunch. One one such occasion, we talked about what we could call ourselves. The title of this page is essentially what we came up with. A combination of several movies about women all rolled into one.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. I've got lots of new things to share, so come back again soon.

How Many?

Sunday, November 1, 2015

Good morning! Wow. November. This year has flown by. Well, a new month means new challenges. First up is Picture This. Today we are asking you to use:

Die Cuts, scraps, buttons and your choice of photos

Sometimes I forget that I have cool paper that I love in my scrap bin. I went digging and came up with some basic shapes in primary colors for this page. The photos were taken on a phone, but several years ago. They aren't great. Keeping it simple was the way to go here. I layered up some of the papers, then used the washi at the top that has all the colors I used to tie everything together. I added circles in the flair button and die cut to soften the lines the page. A sprinkling of bits down the page helped create some balance.

This kiddo and his books. Once he began to read he never stopped. There was a Barnes and Noble so close to our house. Most Saturdays, he and his Dad would go on Special Outings together. This usually included the book store. It wasn't a matter of getting a book, it was always "how many can I get"? Then the agonizing decision of which one(s) to get. Our feeling were, if he wants to read, get him a book. We still feel that way.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. I know I've not been consistent here lately. I think things have calmed down around here. You will see lots more going on this month.

Love & Kisses

Thursday, October 15, 2015

Hello! I have here today the newest challenge at Picture This. Are you ready?

2 PHOTOS + POLKA DOTS + FAMILY

Two photos, no problem. Polka dots, also no problem and this page is all about family.  I actually ket the polka dots in the background. Literally. It's the red background paper. The banner is also polka dots. I used a bunch of 3x4 cards from a family themed collection to create the quilted matte under the photos. It another nod to the theme of the page.  Add some embellishments  that also speak to family and the page is complete.

I chose a sketch from Boys Rule Scrapbooking as the design of the page. I used full 4x6 photos so the entire layout design is extended. I love the end result.

I love these photos and will probably scrap them again so I can tell a different story. For now know that these are the last photos of my son and Grandfather together. I look at them with joy and sadness at the same time. For the most part, that's what the journaling says.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. Come back again soon, I always have more to share.

Go HERE for Stuck?! Sketches reveal

Hey there! Wow. October 1st already! I know I keep saying this but where does the time go??? I say that as I have been working on photos from 2010, which doesn't seem that long ago. Anyway, let's get to today's reveal at Picture This Challenges:

3 Photos + Chipboard + Stamps
Three photos are never a problem for me. I have a hard time choosing and editing photos. I grabbed a template from the Get It Scrapped Half and Half Scrapbook Coach lesson for some help in page design. The frame and larger alpha are chipboard. I stamped in the middle of my journaling.  I chose some high energy papers and embellishments to help tell the story. I originally was going to stamp on raw chipboard. I got carried away, in a totally different direction, but I am so happy with the way it turned out.

As the journaling reads: This is one of those "oh, look what he can do! Oh crap, look what he can do!" moments. I left the room for a moment and came back to this. He is my ever curious, daredevil, no fear, child. I would have it any other way.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. Come back again soon, I always have more to share.

Ice Ice baby

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Good morning. Wow. mid September already. I guess I better start thinking about fall. I keep thinking it's still summer. Well, regardless, It's time for a new challenge at Picture This and I did create a very summery layout for this challenge:

Sunburst + 2 photos + buttons

This is labor of love. All. That. Stitching. But it was my own choice. Yes, the colors are bright, but it needed some texture. I took my color cue from the sign in the photo. The sunburst is so bold, I kept the embellishing to a minimum. I used the arrows pointed to focus on the photos. And then there is the title, but what would one of my pages be without  some humor in it? Looking for buttons? I used a small flair button. How's that for thinking outside the box?

We are so fortunate to have family that lives in So. California. It's a summer destination every year. I love dawdling down he small main street either by myself or with my son. This is a little local coffee join t I frequent when we visit. This day, he noticed the sign for shave ice and asked for one. Who am I to say no? But he's so funny. He says that the best part is not the first few bites. It's when the ice has melted a little and you get into the bowl where all the syrup is. ok then. Enjoy buddy!

Thanks for taking a look at my creative view today. I've got lost more to share, so come back again soon

What's Owl The Buzz About

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

my, oh my, Happy September to you. It is a very happy day around here. For me anyway. It's the first day of school! I'll take those early mornings in exchange or a bit of routine for all of us. Oh, a new month also means a new challenge at Picture This.  This challenge is :

2 photos + green + white + black

I think I'll do a Halloween page. I LOVE Halloween. Really. And I love scrapping the photos even more. Bright colors, creepy critters, silly critters, but always smiling faces.  All of those can be mixed together as I've done here. Spider webs? Creepy. Monsters with mustaches? Silly. Photos? Definitely happy. Bright colors mixed into the green, black and white? Easily done.

My parents came for a visit and got to experience Halloween in all the ways, school parties and parades as well as Trick or Treating. I'm not sure who enjoyed this more, my son or my parents. Regardless, these are the first of several pages of this particular Halloween.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. I'm starting this month off with a bang. There will be much more coming along this month. one back again soon

Hello Fall

Saturday, August 15, 2015

Hey there! It's time for the mid month reveal at Picture This. This time around, we are asking that you use these elements:
2 photos + monochromatic + fall colors

Well, let me tell you. I found this to be challenging indeed! I think I got too much into my own head though. I would find a photo, then realize I needed 2 photos. Or choose a color, and again only find one photo. Finally, I landed on these photos that I took on a morning walk last fall. Brown was an easy choice. It's a great neutral to help the color in the photos shine.

The polka dots give the page some pattern. I embossed the dark brown card stock with a floral motif to go with the outdoor theme of the page. The wood leaves and splattered paint, again enhance the theme.

Inspiration for this page some from a sketch I found at ScrapMuch? from April 2015.

Thanks for taking a look at my creative view today. August tends to be busy for me. But, summer vacation is winding down around, so I will be back to my frequent bogging shortly.

House hunting

Saturday, August 1, 2015

Hello there. Its August. Wow. Well, a new month means a new challenge at Picture This. the challenge elements are

one photo + 2 patterned papers + black background

And here you go: I used a textured cardstock base. I used both sides of one piece pf patterned paper as my two patterns. the rest are journaling cards, stickers, and die cuts.  I used the wood numbers not only to work the flow around the page, bt also to represent the amount of houses that we looked at.

We spent hours and hours over there course of two weekends looking for a house for our move. Somehow, he still had a smile on his face. Maybe he was looking at the listing of the house we bought.

Design inspiration for this page comes from the July Sketch At Boys Rule Scrapbook Kits. I replaced the round objects for the squared journal tags, and moved the embellishment cluster from the bottom to the top.

Oh Boy!

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

I'm 3 for 3 so far this week.  I'm back today sharing the latest challenge at Picture This.

blue&white +2 photos + frame + flowers

Well, when I was planning this in my head, the first 3 were not a problem. It was getting that flower in there that was throwing me. (Especially when I thought it was supposed to be a butterfly). Well, I grabbed my trusty Paper Issues June Swag Bag because I knew there were several blue&white pattern papers. in my stash I found a couple of stickers, including the title that were perfect to add some humor to the page. I used a wood frame, and a small paper flower.  The sequins and enamel dots are placed to give the page flow.
To most people, this would be considered mischief. To me, this is my son exploring. Truthfully, it was funny the first time. The second time, not so much. Here we thought we were clever by putting his dresser in the closet, hoping to avoid this exact situation. He quickly outsmarted us.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. There will be more to share tomorrow, so come back again.

First Mates

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Hello there and happy July. Wow this year is flying by. Well, a new month means a new challenge at Picture This. the requirements for this challenge are:

1-2 photos + red, white, blue + stars

I know everyone immediately thinks American patriotic colors. I have just finished several patriotic colored pages and honestly don't have any more photos to scrap right now. But that just means I get to use these in a more creative way.

I grabbed the October Afternoon Treasure Map for this page. I love the colors and the idea of this really being a great collection for boy pages. The theme of adventure shots the page well.  I sprinkled some red throughout the page, the blue and whit are obvious. I like using stars as a generic embellishment.

It's the morning of the last day of school, the last day together before we move. These two know it and aren't sure how to act. Happy or sad. They met at age one and have been best buds ever since.

I'm also playing along with the current Paper Issues Seas the Day linky party, featuring and sponsored by October Afternoon. Thank you for stopping by on this July morning. Come back again, I've always something new to share.

Monday, June 15, 2015

Hey there!  It's a busy day around here. First up I have a project for the new challenge at Picture This. This week's challenge is
one photo + stencil + paint

Well, this was easy peasy for me. But it was also a good reminder to get out my stencils and actually use them. I use my paints & mists all the time. Stencils, well, not so much. Here I created a subtle background behind the photo and layered papers. The result adds texture to an other wise bland Cardstock base.

The rest of the page came together nicely. I grabbed some scraps  and an ephemera pack and just started adding pieces, then moving them around until I had an arrangement I liked. Oh, and I was determined to use that large gold acrylic heart! It worked nicely to house the title. The colors are soft, but not dull, and support the photo and story.

I love this photo of my Mom and my son. They have such a sweet relationship. They understand each other. My Mom is patient, playful and loving with him, but firm when necessary. He knows all this, and just loves her for it.

Thanks for taking a look at my creative view today. I have another story to tell, so check back again later this morning for another post.

A Bookworm Fantasy

Monday, June 1, 2015

Happy Monday! Yes, I don't mind Mondays. Especially reveal Mondays. It's June, (June already?!?) so it's time for a new challenge at Picture This.  Here are the requirements:

2 photo + banners + flag

Well, I got a bit creative on this one. The photos are not great, in color or clarity. In order for them to stand out, I used small geometric patters for the page. I loved the idea of the larger chalkboard style paper to house the title and journaling. I made the die cuts, cut them in half and made the banner. Whoever said a banner has to be flags or triangles? I used the flag stickers to draw attention to the large cluster at the bottom of the page.

My son is like his Mom, and loves to read. We had the opportunity to meet one of his favorite authors at the time, Rick Riordan and jumped on it. First it was a question and answer session with him, then He autographed books for all of the kids. My son was ecstatic. He has since outgrown this author's books, but keeps his autographed one on his shelf.  I was so happy to share this experience with him.

Thanks for taking a look at my creative view today. It's going to be a busy month, with tons of fun around here, so come back again soon.

Academic Scholars

Friday, May 15, 2015

Hello there and happy Friday! It is time for a new challenge at Picture This. Here are the new challenge elements:
2 photos + dots + layers + stars

I decided these elements worked nicely with some photos I had of some school activities my son participated in. I grabbed a very old simple polka dot background paper, layered it over a dark navy paper. I cut some paper strips, layered them up too.  stamped on some white cardstock, stitched 2 stars, then cut them out. Yup. Made my own embellishments to add to the paper corners. But no school layout should be complete without a few gold stars! See how nicely these items work together?

Wen my son was in 4th grade, he earned a spot on his school's Battle of the Books team. They prepared all school year to compete against other elementary schools. They did not win, but they did very well. Later that year, his art class had their work feature in the district art fair. Two great events for him. I now he was more proud of the book part than the art part though. Regardless of how he felt, we were proud of him and are always happy to see him do well.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. I've got a lot coming up, so stop back gain soon.

Fantastic 14

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Good morning and happy May 1. It's new challenge reveal day over at Picture This. Today's challenge is:
two photos + black&white + doily + yellow

The black & white are in various forms all over the page, including the doily which is black. the hot pink and yellow are complimentary colors, and I love the single splash of turquoise already on the background paper. I even used a photo frame, but turned it into a shaker filled with sequins. In lieu of journaling, I found 14 word stickers in my stash that are adjectives describing bits of his personality.

I went outside my box on this one. As my son gets older, I'm finding myself wanting to find new ways to create his birthday pages. I like that these papers and embellishments are a little more modern. I do have to say it was inspired by a page kit I purchased a while ago from EmbellishOnline.

Thanks as always, for stopping by my creative view today. It's always a bit crazy around here. Check back again soon.

Road Trippin'

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Hey, there. It's a busy day around here. A new challenge is up at Picture This. Today, we are asking you to use
3 photos + travel

Super fun one for me.  We took one last road trip last summer up to Vancouver and we all had our own agenda while there. I used 3 of those photos here as well as travel themed papers. First a selfie, or a 'groupie" really, then the bag of Canadian chocolate my son wanted and third, the scrapbook store I went to while there. Easy peasy!

Design inspiration for this page comes from My Scraps & More Sketchathon, day 1 in their forum. I fussy cut the layers under the photos from 2 different 3x4 cards in the paper collection. Design element inspiration is from Scrap Our Stash STAMP challenge. I used stickers, three photos, arrows, maps, patterned paper (only).

Thanks for taking a look at my creative view today. There is a lot going on around here so come back again.

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

Good Morning! Happy April 1st! I'm not into April Fools, so no jokes here today.  But a new month means new challenge reveals. My project today is the new challenge at Picture This

one photo + splatter + photo corners

I love this layout! It came together very quickly. I layered up a bunch of items from my Paper Issues Swag Bag combined with several of my favorite embellishments. I threw on a few sequins, enamel pieces, then finished it with a bit of paint splatter.

It's so nice when someone else takes photos besides me. It's even better, when I get a beauty like this one. Nothing special going on, just hanging out last summer while visiting family. But what this photo doesn't say, is how much we enjoy his smile and seeing him happy. It's something we don't take for granted.

Thanks for taking a look at my creative view today. Come back later this week, I have more to share.

Grin and Wear It

Sunday, March 15, 2015

Hey there! It's reveal Sunday for me. Picture This has a new challenge today.

Dark Background + 2 photos + butterfly

I'm certain I overthought this one. Dark ground and 2 photos? No problem. Butterfly? Well, they don't make frequent appearances on my pages, so they are not a staple in my stash. I also had to figure out a way to use one in context with the rest of the subject of my page.  I admit, It was the very last thing to be added. Did you find it yet? It's on the journal tag.

I've been finding lots of photo os my yogurt son smiling. Some I save to use to tell a story about him, Others are jut cute and I wasn't to look at over and over. These are two of those photos.  I found a fun sketch at Sketch n Scrap. I'm always looking for new ideas using both horizontal and vertical photos on a page. I mixed some colorful papers and embellishments to brighten up the dark background, and to play with the cheerful photos. It was quick and easy to put together.

Thanks for looking at my creative view today. Want to see more? You can find the Red Carpet Studio reveal post HERE.
