Quite the Pair

Hey there! I am way late with this post but that's what happens when you are sick for a few weeks!  I am super excited to share today that Sketches in Thyme is back hosting challenges with sketches! Sketches will be posted on the 15th of each month.  I know many of you are as disappointed as I was when SIT closed last August. Well, we're back and hope to see you playing along there again.

Here is sketch #122 we had to work with:

Here is my LO: Just a few silly shots of my guys while we were on vacation in summer 2008

I added a second photo and changed around the embellishments.  It looks like I used less, but because the mask and ink were busy, that was on purpose.

Short and sweet today. Like I said. Super excited that Sketches in Thyme is back nd hope to see your creations linked up over there.

Awesome Sisters

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Wow, we've almost hit the end of the month already! Time seems to be going by faster and faster these days.  I don't know about you, but it's been a busy month for me.  Swim meets, playoff football games,  lots of kidtivities.

Anyway, I'm here today to share my page for ScrapStuffz' Inspired by.  We have a truly, lovely photo this month. It makes me happy when I look at it.  So many pretty flowers, the sun and shade, and the outdoors!

Well, I went with the feminine aspect of this inspiration piece and created a page of my sister and I using pink! And flowers! Because I don't get to use pink, and flowers regularly! The colors just went with this photo. It was a bright and beautiful summer day and a special occasion.

Once again, everything on this page is from a Citrus Twist Kit. I flipped out a little when I saw the bright pinks and all the frilly embellishments, But when I see this page completed, it's like they were made for this challenge.  I've been playing around with mixing patterned papers and adding more embellishment clusters.  I am proud to day that I've used almost all the pink in the kit.

The background pink was really vibrant. I needed to use complementary colors and a simple design.  The yellow and teal were great accent colors.  The blue flowers just seemed to ground the whole page.

We want to see how you are inspired by our photo. Please join our challenge. you have until the end of the month to add your projects.

Another Awesome Family Photo

Monday, January 20, 2014

Hi again.  It's another great Monday and that means another reveal for Let's Get Sketchy.  It's been fantastic to be scrapping regularly again! This is also my entry for one of my favorite places to play, Scrap Our Stash,  the Countdown Challenge.  Here is today's sketch:

I have to say, I found it a bit challenging, so I kept it simple.

What was a fun and engaging game of 'wrestle with Mom and kiddo', somehow quickly turned into "Mama is the human chair!" And he sat there on my back, extremely content to watch his movie that way!

What I love most, are the photos and the papers I chose. The collection is called 'Family is" and it is filled with HUMOR! Perfect for this page!  What I like least is the plain background. I was afraid to over do it and lose the focus on the photos.  I like the visual triangle of red. That gave the page some pop.  It is actually well balanced!

For the countdown I used, 5 papers, 4 die cut stickers, 3 photos, 2 enamel dots, and one rub on (the navy circle at bottom right). I had to search for rubons. I got rid of ALL of them. This one sheet that goes with a summer collection is all I have left!

Well, I'm hoping you will join in the fun over at Let's Get Sketchy this week. You can add your entries until the end of the month.

Sea Lionz'

Monday, January 6, 2014

Good Monday morning!  Everyone is back at school, work and routines are back to normal. Why yes, it is a great Monday!  I have some news to share before I talk about my page. I and am now a member of Let's Get Sketchy!  I am thrilled to be a part of this extremely talented group of ladies and today is my first reveal.

Here is January Week 1 sketch:

Here is my Layout:

We had a wonderful water park in our former city, called Sea Lion Park. It was an easy and favorite place to take the boys on a  hot summer day. Shallow water or deep, water slides and fountains, there was something for both of them to enjoy.  Being in the water is one of the few things these two have in common. We would spend hours there every summer.

The first thing I knew when I saw the sketch was that I needed to find a summer photo because I wanted to use and layer a wave border punch I have. I always find it interesting what inspires me to get started. :-)  Then I went to my summer papers, selected a few, and got to work.  I used a pre-printed paper as the main background. I used a large playful font for the title. I used a 'z' because I had no more 's' to use. I think it adds to the playfulness. I chose a sec on paper to use under the main paper. It needed some more color, then took a negative and the cast off strip off the wave punch and to create the border at the top of the page. This helped balance the weight at the bottom.

I love the whale!  I cut round it and slipped the photo as well as the borders under it so I could keep the bulk of the design in the lower part of the page.  I outlined the waves with Stickles to give it a little shine.

Next came the sun!  I had ordered some buttons online and was not thrilled with them when they arrived. Some of them are HUGE, like this yellow one.  Good thing I was feeling creative!  It became the perfect center for my sun.

Thanks for taking a look today. Please join in the week one sketch challenge at  Let's Get Sketchy. You have until the end of the month to add your creations.

Brims from Ear to Ear

Sunday, January 5, 2014

I'm rolling, 2 posts within the first week of the year. I'm going to continue on my quest to try new places for Scrappy Challenges.  My choice for January is My Scraps and More. I've been following this blog for quite a few months. I've Pinned several of their daily inspiration layouts, as well as sketches which are released on Fridays. I did use a MS&M sketch for one of my LO's. You can find the post for it here .

Well, for the first Friday post this month, they are having a blog hop. I really like their DT, so  I participated in the hop, and this is the LO I created with their sketch.

We were down in So Cal for a family event for the other side of my family. But I couldn't be down there and nit see my Mom!  She was really happy we made brunch plans with her and my Grandma. We didn't expect a 2 hour wait, or a shadeless area to wait in. It didn't matter to Grandma and Grandson. They had their hats to keep the sun off their faces and each other to pass the time.

You know me. I'm a 4x6 gal about 80% of the time.  So, again, I have adjusted a sketch to suit my needs. But hey, they are a jumping off point right?  This is a GREAT sketch! So easy to adapt to just about any way I want. I used 2 different sized 'squares' in order to extend the sketch to accommodate the photo. I added some washi against the papers, then layered a vellum die cut and twine over it.  I'm still experimenting with 'little bits' as embellishments.  I've never been an embellishment guru,  but I'm finding using lots of little things easier to do.  I used more stuff from those 3 Citrus Twist Kits I had too.  I'm truly amazed how far those kits have gone and how much I've enjoyed using them.

It's always fun when the mojo starts going again. Thanks to My Scraps and More, I got this done quickly and I love it!

Thanks for looking at my creative view today. Please add yourself to my list of followers. I'll have plenty of new posts coming up soon

Happy New Year!

Thanks for stopping by today. I have a fun page to share today for the final reveal over at Boy Meets Girl. Yes, you read that correctly. This is the final month for Boy Meets Girl. I am sad to say goodbye, it's been a great blog to be a part of.

I do have some exciting news to share. Beginning Monday Jan 6, you can find me at Let's Get Sketchy! I will be joining an incredibly talented group of women over there.  And as always, you can still find me at Child's Play Challenges and ScrapStuff'z Inspired By.

On to today's LO.  Our challenge was to do a Holiday page in non traditional colors.

I don't do a lot of Christmas or Hanukkah pages, so this in itself was a challenge.  I used a Holiday card photo from 2010.  It was our first winter here and we stumbled upon  festival at our local outdoor mall.  I was thinking about how many tries it took to get one good photo, and that led me to the papers that I chose to work with, Family Ties by BoBunny.  The design is a sketch template from Simple Scrapper.  The photo is a little dark, so I did use a corally red, to bring the eye back to the photo. The splatter is a big 'ole mistake, but I left it alone.  I cut the title from one of the papers.  I even typed my journaling, then cut it into strips. I had more to say than I thought.

Well, this is your last chance to join the challenge at Boy Meets Girl, so I hope to see you playing along.
