Well, hello there! I had to take a short crafty break. I will be crafting intermittently over the next few weeks, but wont worry, I will be posting when I can. Like today! I snuck away for a bit and made this.

I have been wanting to play along with Paper Issues Pinspire Me all month. I saw a sketch I liked at ScrapMuch? and it all came together in about 30 minutes.

Something about this sketch made me think of these photos. Then the idea of scattering twine came to me and I was possessed with getting this page done. From the moment I saw the Pinspire Me board, I was attracted to the Stay Weird...so yep, done. 

Gears are his favorite toys. One day we were going somewhere so I put some on a string so they wouldn't get lost. Little sis I know I created a monster. Since then, not only do gears go on strings, but everything else too. This kiddo and his crazy ideas.

Pinch Proof

Hey there! Can you believe it's mid month already? Well, All that means is there's a new sketch challenge at Stuck?! Sketches today.   

Another amazing sketch to work with. The beauty of this sketch is it's versatility. Again I used a 4x6 photo. All I did was enlarge the scale of the sketch. The general idea remains the same. I kept it fairly clean, adding my own touches by moving some of the embellishments around. But really, wow, was this fun and super easy to work with. I even was able to work in one of Laura's free cut files for the title. 

My son is such a character. He got it in his head he wanted green pants because green was hi favorite color. My sister had already sent him the green shoes, so why not? He had the perfect attire for St. Patrick's Day, or any other time he was feeling his green self.

Hello Shayna Boy

Hey there. I have a layout in the new article on the Get It Scrapped blog.  Today we are talking about different ways to bring conversation into your pages, with ideas based on the Make It Mean eBook, available to Get It Scrapped members. 

I grabbed an idea from Debbie Hodge in which she used phrase to signal a story. Nani's conversations often began with "Hello Shayna Boy", which is a Yiddish saying for 'Beautiful'.  If this is an approach you decide on, my advice would be to choose a phrase that brings emotion and feeling to your story. Nani said these words in a sing-song voice, gesturing with her hands, which I can still hear, and visualize her doing today.

These photos tell two stories. First, my son is non-verbal. I find it funny that after all these years, My Grandmother (Nani) would still talk to him as if he would respond to her. Second, they look so engrossed in each other, but this was a one sided conversation. I've always tried to imagine what the real conversation would be.

You Together

Good morning! Wow. April already. Works for me. April means we are headed towards summer. April also means the beginning of baseball season. Woot Woot! Well, April 1 really means a new sketch challenge at Stuck?! Sketches

I love this sketch. It gave me and opportunity to work on my layering and clustering techniques. You can also make it as clean and simple or as decorative as you like. I went the simple route this time.  I layered and tucked extra little bits all around the photo. Instead of the second photo, I used tags and die cuts. I created my own version of the embellishment cluster at the bottom, using it for my title.

This photo is from last fall when my Mom arrived for a visit. My younger son was so beyond happy to see her, he quite literally dragged her, while hugging her up the stairs. They have a special relationship and it makes me so happy to watch them together.

Me. Myself and I

Hey there! I almost forgot to post this! I,'m on a good roll with challenges and blogging this month. Mostly due to Calvinball. Now If I can only keep it up. Next up for me is a cheeky little number I created for the Paper Issues Spring Crop using the Sketch + 3 from Scrap Our Stash this month. 

I adjusted the sizes and number of the photos, also adjusting some into 3x4 cards instead. The rest is pretty much the same. From the 3 columns I used Graphic paper, (black & white) hot pink & hearts, and ink (splatters). Since I do so many boy pages, I always love a chance to use a doily. 

The Paper Issues challenge was to use a selfie. I'll say I did. I'll take a few Calvinball points for that too. You know me, I like to add humor to my pages. There is not better way to do that than to make fun of yourself.

I dont Wanna...

Good morning! Today I am sharing my final layout as this month's Guest Designer for The ScrapRoom. 

Kit Club members receive the benefit of recipes to help them put together all the 2 page layouts that are created by Design Team members. More information on these recipes and on joining the kit club are available on The ScrapRoom website.

I used the Maggie Holmes Bloom paper from the FOTM kit to create my page. I used all of the embellishments, adding a few extras from my stash, including the alphas for the title. I really liked how these papers all work together. I used both sides of some of them.

My friends and I get together for a scrapbook weekend getaway every summer. We call it "Camp". We love camp. We have so much fun that we never want to leave.

Put the Needle on the Record

Hey there and good morning! There is a new article on the Get It Scrapped blog today discussing page designs that appeal to the senses. I think this is a really interesting way to convey meaning in a scrapbook page and it was an assignment I quite enjoyed completing.

I am appealing to the sense of hearing. I began with photos of some of our music. To enhance the sense of music, I used musical themed embellishments, such as the notes, washi tape, and title. I fussy cut the letters D, E and F out of a piece of paper to give even more 'sound' to the page. Using the black background was a choice I made to not only ground the business of the photos, but to mimic a vinyl record. 

  

My husband is an audiophile. He is always playing music, as well as playing with his records and equipment. He goes on binges with particular artists and genres. I never know what's coming next. A personal favorite are our Sunday morning brunches with the Beatles.  Everyone in our house listens to music. We may all have our own taste, but there is always something playing in the background.

High in the Sky

Ha! 5 days, 5 posts! I said I'd be busy around here and I meant it! Next up is this little number I created using inspiration from a Paper Issues Spring Crop Challenge combined with the newest ScrapMuch? sketch

Yep. Flipped it again. It would have worked the other way too, but I figured because the topic was about being high up, the photos should be too. So because of that, I also moved the title and enhanced the edge strip to be a larger focus.

While visiting family last summer, we decided to check out the OC Fair. Not only did we choose a scorcher of a day, we went during the hottest part of the day. We walked around, ate a lot, played some games, and tested a few rides. The kid was way more brave than we were, but I think we all agreed, there is nothing like a ferris wheel on a clear day.

Sisters First, Friends Always

Well good Friday morning to you. Today I'm sharing another project created as March Guest Designer for The ScrapRoom. I'm featuring the PinkFresh papers from the FOTM kit and the Freaky Fast Friday formula, or FFF for short. Take a look at he formula we used this month.

First I looked at all the papers. Then I looked at which patterns I liked best together, then I took a deep breath and cut them up. I probably spent 10-15 minutes laying them all over the page in several different ways, until I was satisfied with the design. I stamped a few times under the papers to give the grey a little more interest. I used the die cuts, word stickers and wood pieces to create 2 of the embellishment clusters, adding a doily from my stash to create the base for the third. A bold title ties all the colors in the page together.

I met these ladies in college. It's many years later, many years lost and found. One thing is for sure, we did meet as sisters in our sorority, but we are still, and always will be friends. We toasted our 25+ year friendship at a luncheon celebrating our chapter's 50th anniversary on our campus. It was such a great weekend and a reminder that you don't have to talk everyday to be good friends.

Nothing's Changed

Oh hello again. I'm on a roll this week, plating catch up on some finished pages, and I'm not finished yet! Today I'm sharing a page I created for both Scrap Our Stash Challenge and Scrapbook Generation Crop.

This is the book inspired inspiration challenge and here is my resulting page.  I found myself using the colors pink and turquoise, as well as the banners, and yes there is gold all over the page, including the title. I used a 2 page Scrapbook Generation sketch and went to town with colors, patterns and embellishments. 

Last fall, I spent the weekend with some really good, but long lost friends. We recently reconnected after years apart and I couldn't have been happier. I don't know what happened, but let's thank social media for getting us back together. It truly was like nothing had changed since college. I wish we lived closer, but now it's time to just stay in touch.

Always Aunt Helen

Hey there and good morning! We made it past PI day to the middle of the month. That means it's time for a new sketch challenge at Stuck?! Sketches. 

Here is the new sketch

You have to know me well enough to know that, a) I use a lot of 4x6 photos, so b) I flip and adjust sketches to work of the photos I have. That is the beauty of Laura's sketches. They are so easily adaptable. They work for any style page with any size photos.  So yes, I flipped it on it's side once clockwise, but left the design alone. 

Just to show you how versatile this sketch is, I also stretched it out into a 2 page layout. I did the dame thing by flipping it on it's side, then connected the two sides by using the same paper in the middle. I still used only 3 embellishment areas.  This sketch could also easily become a 2 page layout just by duplicating it as it is. 

I know I promised no more baseball pages from this album, but I lied. However, these are the last two pages. That I can promise you.

Love you Nani

I am among March a very creative month. Calvinball has that effect on me. That and I'm ready for spring, but it's been too rainy to do much outside of the house. So, on to today's project. 

I saw this great sketch at ScrapMuch? Combine that with a moldboard challenge at Scrapbook Generation, and the desire to use some brand new product and this is the result. 

I started to use the sketch as it was designed. At the last minute, I changed the photo, which led me to both flip,  and mirror image it. I adjusted the title and journaling placement, and am really happy with the way it came out.

I lost my Nani a month ago. I feel like I need to do pages about her right now. This is the opposite of how I felt when my Grandfather passed away 5 years ago. I couldn't even look at photos of him without crying. Nani enjoyed life all the way to the end. This photo couldn't exemplify that any better. So yes, this is how I want to remember her.

Beach Bummin'

Oh help there. It seems I am a bit behind on my blogging. It's a scrappy month, thanks to Calvinball, so now it's time to play catch up. I'll begin with this page I created based on the March sketch challenge on the Imaginisce blog. 

I flipped the sketch horizontally. I think we were all kind of looking in different directions, but the photo looked better on this side on the page. Other than that, I pretty much used the sketch as it was designed. I used my newly purchased Sunny collection. I'm a sucker for summer themed papers. Maybe its all the grey winter days, or memories of growing up in a beach town. Who knows. But summer collections and photos make me smile. This collection included!

I started by misting some yellow & orange over a stencil I cut on the Silhouette to create a subtle sun ray. I love the mix of acrylic and card stock die cuts. I added a few flair and enamel dots to give the page some dimension. I also trimmed one of the 3x4 cards, then adhered the camera over it. It added the right motif as well as more color to my page. I can't wait to dig our more photos to use with thus stuff!

Of course we waited until our last day in Hawaii to take a family photo. Isn't that usually what happens? Nonetheless, we got a nice photo, which sums up our last vacation. Nice. Lazy days at the beach, naps in the hotel, eating out every meal. A teenagers dream right? I can't complain either, and can't wait to go back.

The Good Stuff

Good morning! Today I get to share another layout created as Guest Designer this month at The ScrapRoom. On The ScrapRoom blog are several projects featuring the new Simple Stories Life in Color collection that is part of the FOTM kit. 

I  used the Simple Stories page kit along with a few items from the Embellishment Add On kit to create this layout.  

Those triangles spoke to me and I wanted to use them in a bold way. I cut 3 of the strips apart and layered them until I had a look that I liked. To balance all of the angles, I added various sizes circles. circles. To balance color, I placed strips of paper at the top of the page as well as a few red inked wood stars from my stash. 

There isn't anything super special about this photo. It is more of a reminder to us to stop and take in the moment form our son's perspective. It may be just another walk to the park for us, but for him it's the journey. He takes it all in. To us we wonder why he doesn't want to go down the slide. To him, maybe he's just fine watching everyone else. So sitting on the park bench for a moment slows us down. Maybe so that we can take in the moment as well.

Hello Spring

Hello there! I am excited to share my first page as Guest Designer for The ScrapRoom this month! The ScrapRoom offers kits and add ons, plus coffee if you want. 

I was given the Flavor of the Month Kit, plus a Patterned Paper Kit and Embellishment Kit to work with this month. I have to say, what a nice selection! I really like how the kit was broken down into individual page kits. It doesn't get much easier than that to put pages together. 

So speaking of pages, the first page I have to share today is using this month's sketch:

I used the Pebbles papers and embellishments from the Flavor of the Month Kit.  I love printed kraft paper. And the butterflies and bees! I found them a great match for these photos. I used the sketch as it was designed, but I did make a few adjustments. First, I used a 4x6 photo accompanied by the 2 smaller ones. Second, I used the barcode strips to create 2 extra horizontal strips across the center of the page. Lastly, I moved the title up a little so I could add some journaling.   As far as embellishing, I fussy cut some hexagons add some color. The title uses one of the words from the Sticker sheet in the Embellishment Kit. From my stash I added the alphas for the title and some mist sprinkled over the page.

We are so fortunate to live close to the daffodil and tulip fields. We were on a family outing one Saturday last spring. On our way home, we found ourselves driving right through the daffodil fields. Of course we had to stop! It was cloudy, but the colors were so bright. I still can't help but think of the Poppy Fields in The Wizard of Oz though every time we visit.

Play Ball

Good morning! New month, new sketch challenge reveal over at Stuck?! Sketches today! Take a look at this sketch that is full of possibilities.

Yes, I made another baseball page. What can I say, I really wanted to finish this album! And, yes, I took liberties with this sketch as well. But that's the beauty of a sketch. You can make them work for you is you are feeling creative, or use them as is. I kept the design the same, but used one larger  photo. In place of the 2 smaller ones, I created larger embellishment clusters, both with squares in them.

I'm pretty sure this is the last page of the album. I'm finished. It's one of my favorite photos of the night. It;s proof we were there, that the party existed, that Momo was the guest of Honor.

He's a Creeper

Hey, good morning and Happy March! Todays Get It Scrapped article topic is the design principle of  Repetition.   Repetition is just what it sounds like; using items, colors, patterns etc, more than once to help tell the story on your page. Only in scrapbooking, the object is to keep it interesting. I like to vary the shapes, texture, size etc, of what I am repeating to create interest and whimsy. 

My page below, uses primarily 3 colors: black, white and orange. Throughout the page I created repetition in texture with glitter, motif with skeletons, bats, stars and words, and lastly with the color orange in a variety of shapes, tones and patterns. By mixing how I used all of these elements, I created interest all over the page.

My son went to a Halloween party without a costume and came home looking like a creepy character from "The Nightmare Before Christmas".  He had told me his friends were going to make him up to look like a skeleton, but this was way beyond my expectation!

Fly Boy, Fly

Hey there! I've got another one to share today. I'm trying to get caught up in preparation for next week (hint hint) :-). I worked on this a week ago for a couple of challenges. The sport challenge for Scrapbook Generation using a sketch from Scrapmuch?. 

I flipped as well as turned the sketch. I wanted a downward motion to simulate the motion of my son swimming down the lane. I kept is simple using strips of washi tape. I didn't want to overwhelm the page with the wavy piece. I also wanted to create some contrast to the page with bits of yellow mixed and multi color striped paper it wouldn't be all green & blue.Lastly, I added the black, I thought it would lead back to the photo and little bit of lane line in it. 

This is my son 2 weeks ago swimming the Butterfly for his High School at a Championship meet.  My husband snapped this photo as he was swimming down the lane, zooming in. Sent he resemble Michale Phelps? Just kidding. But I am in complete awe of his ability, commitment and love of swimming.

Writer's Block

Good morning! Today's Get It Scrapped article shows a sketch with the team sharing their interpretation of it.  

In this sketch, I like the ability to change the size of the squares. I reduced the size of the squares to create a matte for my photo. I purposely broke the plane of the grid with the photo and embellishment to create interest and some whimsey.

My son took our pillows and foot rests to create a creative nook in his room.  He was always reading, writing or drawing. If it wasn't in his room, it was in the family room or at the kitchen table.

Momo and Me

Hey there and good morning to you! The first half of the month has flown by. But that's ok, That means it's time to reveal the newest sketch challenge at Stuck?! Sketches. 

This type of sketch speaks to me. I love the layers, the lines mixed with curves. I can use it as it extended to the edges of the page, or re-size it for a smaller photos and a portion of the page. It's so versatile. Today I used it as it was designed, but I flipped the direction to match the way we are looking in the photo. Those circular embellishment options screamed to be baseball oriented ;-).

This is a personal favorite photo from Momo's party. Everyone wanted time with him and he made time for everyone. It is because of Momo that we are a baseball family. It is from him that I learned my love of the game.

Momo's Loves

Hello there! Just a really quick post today sharing a little something I created Super Bowl Sunday for a variety of challenges, including Scrap Our Stash for the Book inspired stash challenge.  

I really struggled with this cover. In the end, I went simple. I liked burst coming from behind the 'animal'. So here I used a bold striped paper coming out from behind the photos. The theme of the page is family love so the hearts were a great embellishment choice. 

I've had these photos for several years. They are the last I have with my Grandfather. I think that's why it's taken so long for me to scrap them. Although it was getting harder for Momo to get around, he could never say no to any of us. We enjoyed a beautiful winter day with a walk on the pier together.

Hello Love

Hey there! I'm sharing a page today that I can honestly say is a new favorite. I am not one who spends hours on my pages. Every now and then though, I get an idea in my head and I take the time to complete it. This is one of those pages. I saw a cut file in the Silhouette store that I couldn't stop thinking about. I bought it and used it right away.

The funny thing is, the page itself didn't take a long time to put together, maybe 20 minutes. It was the sewing! It took about 2 hours to complete the sewing.  I grabbed some pieces from a paper Issues Swag Bag, a bunch of different heart embellishments, some sequins to balance color and that was it. The page itself was inspired by a few challenges: Paper Issues current issue- Showered with Love, Shimelle-Hearts, ( I love that there are Shimelle challenges now)  and Scrapbook Generation NFL challenge, use Neapolitan colors-pink, brown and white.

Good morning. One of the things I like about Get It Scrapped is the focus on teaching a variety of ways to make scrapbooking easier.  Today's article focuses on contrast to strengthen the design of the page.

The colors in the photo I chose the scrap today are very bright and I wanted them to stand out. I chose a dark navy as the foundation to contrast the bright colors in the photo and the rest of the patterned papers on the page

Every summer we go visit my my Dad. My Dad is a great cook, especially with the BBQ. He was giving my husband a few grilling tips, because at our house, we call him the Burnmaster.

Our World

Good Morning and happy February!  New month means new reveals for new challenges. First up today is the first sketch of the month at Stuck?! Sketches. 

I really like multi photo sketches. I am not one who edits and deletes photos very well. I tend to use more photos than necessary sometimes. This however, is not one of those times. For this page, I used 3 different photos to tell my story. Shortly after moving to Chicago, my sister and I visited the Adler Planetarium? Why did two sisters who have no interest in space make this happen? Because that's our name and we needed to take pictures by everything that said Adler. Dorks? yes? Did we scrapbook at the time? No. Im so happy I do now!

I started by enlarging the circle and made it more part of the foundation of the page. I did this because the paper was a literal part of the story. Other than that, the design of the sketch is pretty much intact. The photos aren't great, and are pretty neutral, but I don't care. That enabled me to choose colors that would make them stand out. The navy didn't, but the purple and teal did.
