Boys Will Be Boys

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Hello there! We are breaking design rules at Get It Scrapped today, talking about designing in groups of 2's and 4s.  Generally, groups in odd numbers are more appealing to the eye. Most of the time I use groups of 3 or 5.

Using groupings of twos and fours works on this page seemed like a natural fit. I took my cue from the photo first, since it features 2 people doing the same thing. The first two letters of the word Boys in the journal card share the same bold font. Adding the two paper dolls there creates another clusters four.  I chose a cut file full of circles, representing the cheerios. I added 2 stickers in 4 places around the circle.  Lastly, I embellished 2 corners of the page, which pushes the viewers eye towards the center.

Cheerios are my son's favorite food. He eats them with every meal.  One day after finishing a box, I put the empty box on my sons head. At first he didn't think it was funny. My husband decided he wanted in on the action, and put the box on his head too. Then it was funny!

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today. I'll be back later this week with more. Check out the Get It Scrapped blog for more ideas and examples.

Pajama Day

Sunday, July 23, 2017

Hey there! It's one of my favorite days of the week. It's Scraplift Sunday  at Paper Issues. Today we lifted Michelle's layout originally seen our Add It Up challenge.

I played with color today using Shinelle's Little by Little collection. The paper I chose had some of the stripes in the pattern, I added a few more to balance the color. The most fun I had was creating the embellishment border. I really chose purposefully, but placed pretty randomly. I love the way it looks!

Since my son was in Kindergarten, he fist day of summer vacation has always been Pajama Day. We make no plans, stay in our pajamas, eat silly food, and watch movies all day. There have been a years when we had to postpone by a few days, but we've always made up the day. I realized Ive never recorded this even and finally got a chance for a photo to go with the story.

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today. We'd love for you to join our challenges. You can find them in our Facebook Group in the July challenges album.  See you next week.

Good morning! Today begins round two of our  Let's Taco 'bout It Issue! Wow do I love our Issues. The topics are broad and well, puns!

Here are some idea to get you started:
-use speech bubbles and/or phrase stickers
-make a page about funny things kids say
-4th of July/patriotic
-tacos and food in general
-use the PI taco card

I went with the idea of funny things kids say for my page. I started with my title, working our from there. So something Christmas maybe? Well, I have nothing Christmas themed. Next, ok, red and black? Bingo. How about some Fancy Pants Sweet Nothings. Check. What else can I add. Well, Im quoting what he said, show about a speech bubble and some punctuation. Check. Hmmmm, How about a bit of green to round out the traditional Christmas colors. Also check. Finished!

This would be an example of my love/hate relationship with Facebook. This popped up as a memory form 2013. And yes, He really did say this. He has come up with some doozies, but this is one of the best!

School's Out for Summer

Thursday, July 13, 2017

I'm back! Did you miss me? I'm playing along with the Add It Up challenge today at Paper Issues. This is a great new challenge to help use up some of that stash!

This month the challenge is to use at least 40 points in stickers. Challenge accepted. Challenge crushed. I have to say, being a part of this team inspires me. I think outside my box. Today I used the new Starburst background cut file , filling it with some Bella stickers from my stash. I so love that that colors are consistent collection to collection. The rest is a mash up of Bella Blvd products including Make Your Mark and Oh My Stars. I scored way more than 40 points, but did not continue counting after 100

This year we were all counting down the days until school ended. It seemed summer would never some. You know they are happy to be home when they LET you pose them for a photo!

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today! Come back again, I still have more to share. Join our challenges in our Facebook group for a chance to win monthly prizes. And always remember, when you shop, use my code DEVRA at checkout for 20% off your purchase!

Summer Fun

Sunday, July 9, 2017

Happy Sunday folks! Another round of Sraplift Sunday is up on the opaper Isseus blog. Today we are lifting a delightful page Stacie made.

When I first saw this  Pebbles Sunshiny Days Let's Float paper the only thing I wanted to do was cut it apart! I'm so happy to have had the inspiration to do so! I kinda feel like those photos are floating on paper water! I tucked some of the other papers from this collection behind the photos, added some of the chipboard stickers and a few ephemera pieces from Echo Park Summer dreams and called it done. The bulk of the work was fussy cutting the paper apart. But I love the look and the page!

I'm already missing the days of lazing in my Dad's pool with my guys. They are big now and want to laze by themselves! I guess that means I should take the time to relax my self!

Thanks so much for taking a look at my creative view today. I've got a lot to share this month, so come back again soon!

Beach Boys

Friday, July 7, 2017

Hello there! Yep, back again with a TGIF edition. well, more like a FFF edition. That would be Free File Friday at Paper Issues

Today is all about stars. Here are just a few star cut files you can find in the shop

Today I used the Starburst Bubbles cut file as a stencil. I sprayed 2 colors of mist over it. So, so easy! Layers are the key to adding pattern and interest so there are several Bella Blvd papers and die cuts. I love these colors. There is something about navy, turquoise, green and orange that appeals to me. It looked a bit plain and I didn't want to matte the white onto patterned paper. Enter my mew favorite toy, the Stitch Happy Sewing machine! I bought some yellow ombre thread and that's all it took to finish this off!

Going to the beach with these guys isn't alway easy, but this day we had a great time! One loved the water and the other loved the sand. Cant really beat that.

Thanks again for popping by my creative view this week. Come back again soon! I have so much planned! If you have an electronic die cut machine, head over to he shop to see what we have. While you are there, pick up some things for yourself! use code DEVRA at checkout for 20% off your purchase!

Beggars

Thursday, July 6, 2017

Well, hello again! I love busy weeks like this. It means I have to make time to play with paper. Today is Pawsitively Pets day at Paper Issues. Now, this isn't any old 'scrap your pet' challenge today. Nope. This month it's all about the naughty things our pets do!

the most part, my dog isn't that naughty. When he is, I'm not usually taking pictures of him! But while visiting family recently, he and his cousin were caught begging for food while we were cooking dinner!

I wanted this a little energetic. PhotoPlay Freestyle papers had the right colors and patterns I was looking for. I cut a few strips, then layers them. It looked a little flats I added some chipboard frames from my stash. Since it is a page about pets, it still needed to be a bit silly. I found a fun font in the Silhouette store to create the title.

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today. I hope to see you playing along with all of our challenges this month. You can find them all here in the July Challenges album

Problem Solved

Tuesday, July 4, 2017

Hey baby, It's the 4th of July! That's a song you know...Anyway, It's also the first Tuesday of the month which makes it Take 5 Tuesday at Paper Issues.  Here is this months board

For my page, I used 4. Sticker, 6. washi tape, 8. Layers, 10. Patterned Paper and 15. Grid Design.  Using multiple photos made choosing a grid design easy.  I could alternate paper and photos. Carta Bella Toy Box made it that much easier to do this. There are so may great themed and basic patterns in this collection, as well as stickers, chipboard, and enamel shapes. The page came together quickly. It's fun, and easy to see everything on the page.

As my boys are getting older, there are more moments, less action. I have found myself looking through older photos lately.  There are some gems in my library. Like these. This kiddo amazes me every day.  Ive said it before, But I dont know what we would do without gears on a string. And I guess when you need a third hand to keep the string taut, you use your feet. Problem solved indeed.

Thanks so much for spending some of your July 4th with me and my creative view. I'm feeling very inspired by Toy Box and will be using it again. You can get some in the shop for 20% off when you use my code DEVRA at checkout. Be suer and add your projects to the July Challenges album  all month long.

Shine

Sunday, July 2, 2017

Well Hey there! It's Sunday again. So yep, that means it's Scraplift Sunday at Paper Issues.  Today we are lifting a beautiful page by Mary Ann Jenkins. She has such a defined style making vintage feeling  papers and photos look current.

Here is my page. I used a large 5x7 photo, so my papers are slightly larger. I liked on Mary Ann's page here paper went dark, light, dark. After choosing to use Fancy Pants Dream Big, I realized I needed to do the opposite, using light, dark, light. This collection has a nice combination of neutral colors, subtle patterns and very uplifting sentiments. I was able to use the floral ephemera die cuts to add more meaning to my page without detracting from the photo.

My Grandma gave me this photo shortly before she passed away. It's her Bat Mitzvah day, which happened to come just after her 80th birthday. When she was young, girls weren't allowed to be Bat Mitvahed. It's something she wanted to do, so she did. I know it was a proud day for her and mt Grandfather.

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today. Come back again, its going to be a bust month. That also means you should probably head over to the Paper Issues Facebook group to check out all the happenings this month! You can find all the info in the July Challenge album

Happy Birthday to Me

Saturday, July 1, 2017

Good morning and happy July! I'm kicking off the new month right with a page I made for the new Sketchy Saturday at Paper Issues. First let me show you the sketch.

Amy sure has a way with these sketches. It has such a festive feel to me so I created a very festive page. It's bright, colorful and silly, exactly like the photo I chose to use. Doodlebug Fairy Tales mixed with some Lawn Fawn had the right whimsy I was looking for.  I layered up several papers, and created a giant embellishment cluster. It didn't feel finished. I remembered I had some gold floss so I stitched some swirls, added some twine, then called it a day! Yay! It's such a happy page!

So yep, It was my birthday. I decided to ignore it by making fun of myself all day. I love my Letterboard and have had such fun playing with it. It was for sure the reason I even too this photo!

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today.  It's just the beginning of the month so come back again soon. Head over to the shop and get some new things to play with. It's always 20% off when you use DEVRA at checkout!
