Lately, after I finish a page and clean up, I set the photos I want to use next on my desk with a piece of scratch paper.  I think it's helping me work faster.  I see the photos and can think about what I want to do.  If I have an idea, I write it down. Then when I have a few minutes, I can grab the supplies and sit down to 'work'.  That's what happened yesterday.  I found myself with a few minutes to spare and whipped out this page.  I'll be using it as my entry for Club CK Mar/Apr Issue Challenge #9, use a button banner.  

It's fairly simple.  2 pieces of BoBunny PP, twine, random buttons and WASHI TAPE!!! My new favorite item!!!!! I used tape from Queen & Co and Target.  That's it.  Colorful and finished!

The photos are from the summer of 2006.  Mom had just moved into her new house and it had a big backyard.  What a better way to keep cool on a hot day than a hose and bowl full of water.  The boys had a blast.

Tiptoe Through the Tulips

Last weekend we went to the Tulip Festival in Mt. Vernon.  It was our first time there.  It was a sunny day, a rare treat, so wee took full advantage of it.  The flowers were exquisite.  I felt like Dorothy in her field of Poppys, only my field was Tulips.  I have to thank my friend Laurie.  She took time out of her Saturday to be our tour guide.

I created this LO using a sketch by Ashley H.  I submitted it for 3 different challenges over at Club CK.   ThanksLiving #4, April Sketch it Out, and Scrapbooking Simply.  

I turned Ashley's sketch into a 2 page spread.  I needed to do this for 2 reasons.  It worked for the photos, and the design element for ThanksLiving is symmetry.  The photos are so vivid and have so many colors, I needed to keep it simple. I wanted them to be the focus, not all the stuff surrounding them.  I stuck to white card stock and added some color around the edges by punching 5 more CS colors with the same punch, then stapling them to the page.  I added the same colors of twine and brads along the vertical edge, adding a subtly misted flower to the middle.  I misted white CS scraps with the same 5 colors and used them to anchor the title and journaling.  A variety of alpha letters and I was finished.  I know I could have added a bunch of stuff, but I am happy with the way it looks.

A busy post!

I have so many ideas swirling in my head and have had no time lately to do anything with them.  The photos are printed and laid out, but that is as far as I have gotten.  Until today!  Yippee!  There are lots of things I like about my LO.  First of all, I used supplies that I don't ordinarily use, including the photos.  I won a challenge at Club CK, sponsored by Scrapbooking From the Inside Out.  I received a kit from them as the prize.  Everything on the LO is from the kit, except the twine.  Tulle, PP by PinkPaislee, and Memory Box, Resist fabric flowers, PinkPaislee hexagon chipboard pieces.  Second, I used the Hipstamatic app on my phone to take the photos.  Totally cool!  These have a more 70's feel. There is a different cast to them that I really like and went well with the PP.  None of which is my style.  It was really fun to try something so completely not me.

I finished a LO that I am entering in two challenges.  I participated in Diana Fisher's Blogiversay Blog Hop last weekend. I really like the sketch that the hop was based on.  In Diana's sketch, I flipped it, omitted the 1/2 circle, moved the journaling and moved around some embellies.  I also chose to use the tulle in place of the chevron looking border.

I also am submitting this to Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday-Hexagons challenge.  Two birds. One stone. Gotta love.  I took the negative space from the chipboard embellishments and used it as a mask for some Tattered Angels Mist.  Hexagons remind me of honeycomb and bees.  Bees like flowers.  You get the idea.

Just Sweet

This is one of my favorite photos of my little guy.  In all the photos I have of him, I think this is the sweetest look on his face.  I had a terrible time deciding how I wanted this LO to look.  A sweet photo, with bright colors, and of course, a 4 foot tall Mickey Mouse front and center.  After much help from my peeps at Club CK, I began working on it.  I stopped and started all week, making sure I liked what I was doing.  Can you say over thinking?  After the March/April Issue Challenge was posted on Wed, I knew which direction I was taking the embellishments.

For some reason, I really wanted a stitched circle on the page, so I started there.  I used my Bazzill in Stitchz circle template.  When I laid it down, I liked the size of the square of the template, so I used Queen & Co red trendy tape to make the square.  Then I added the SMASH book black/white wash tape in the two corners, trying to work the focus to the photo.  Sitting on my desk was the AC word strip.  It was perfect.  I needed to add some yellow, so I got our my Sew Easy and sewed the yellow circle chains to the top an bottom as well.  I used some Tattered Angels pearl mist, which can be seen much better in person.  It added a little shimmer to the dark black. Souffle pens? Yes please.  I doodled around the outside of the red frame, and journaled with a white one.  My favorite white pen.  I took 3 little heart chipboard pieces, inked them the same color as his shirt,  and added some Stickles. I probably could have done with out the punched edges, but it does keep my eye moving around the page. A collaborative effort.  Thanks for the help!

It's MY Party

This is one of the LO's I worked on the other night at my friend's house.  I have so many pictures of little man's birthday, that I printed an 8x10 collage to go along with some 4x6 prints.  I struggled with it, but was able to make it work.  The photo parts are so large, it didn't need a lot of extra embellishments.  Once I added the white, I began to feel better about it. It helped ground it a little and move the eye from left to right.

This is my entry for the Club CK Issue Challenge #7.  It didn't start out that way, but that is how it wound up.  I had more yellow on the right side than on the left. I used that yellow area for the journaling and added word stickers into it to mimic the blocks of the PP.  A satisfactory job, but not one of my favorites.

"Ah Ha" Moments

#1. I spent much of last week making up some kits to take with me to a crop at a friends house. It has been a really long time since I have done that. It was very time consuming. I realized while I was working on them, that that was the only way I used to scrap. I would get my photos, organize then into pages, write down an idea, find a page to life, a sketch, and maybe which PP and CS to use. I would grab a kit when I had time to scrap and that was that.

For the past 6 months or so, I've just organized my photos into pages and left it at that. I've been participating in so many challenges and sketch sites, that I haven't needed to prepare kits. I guess I am finding more confidence in what I can do start to finish. I still use my idea book, ans sketches . Sometimes I use them as they are, sometimes I use them as a starting point. But I'm able to look at my photos and know what I want to do. I guess I've grown more than I thought.

#2. As I was preparing these kits, I didn't include a lot of embellishments. I decided not to. What a mistake that was. I basically was able to stick some PP on some CS with my photos and that was about it. But the reason I didn't include them, was this. As I looked around at my supplies, it occurred to me that is use my embellies and tools in spurts. Lately, I've been sewing and using a lot if twine. Before that it was border strips and border punches. Before that it was Stickles and bling. It isn't that I can't use more of them together on one LO, I just don't. I don't use a lot of embellies on my LOs. I never have. So, something else I learned about myself this week. (Oh, and even though it is beside the point, yes, I have too many tools and embellishments anyway).

#3. I have always scrapped with 4x6 photos. I crop them as needed, both before and/or after printing. Well, there I'd only so much variety you can get on a page with 4x6 photos. I've been toying around with iPhoto and Picasa lately, making collages and having some photos printed in different sizes. I'm still learning which photos are better in smaller sizes and which are better in large sizes. But yes, this allows more variety and flexibility.

Many sketches use multiple sized photos. I've struggled to make those sketches work for my 4x6 photos and have been unhappy with the way the LOs turn out. I'm going to continue to play around in Picasa, but I think the bottom line for me is that I am going to have to break down and buy Photoshop. My ultimate goal, is to know who I am as a scrapper. If I want to continue on my path of creative growth, I think this is a step I am going to have to take.

Fascinating

It's good to be back.  Home, scrapping, blogging, whatever.  One of my favorite challenges is the Issue Challenge over at Club Ck.  I like how Erika can find the minute to the bold ideas from the magazine.  This weeks challenge is to use the colors grey, yellow and white.  Such pretty colors, but ones I don't use together that often, if at all.  A challenge indeed.  Well, I have to say, this LO came together fairly quickly and I'm happy with how it turned out.

I came across this one and liked the idea of the charms on the bracelet.  I used the twine and Glubers and the misting mask to repeat the circular charms.

I started with a Sketch Support sketch, one page #19, but kind of went my own way with it. I love Glubers and twine!!!!  I have so much fun using the twine on the Glubers. (Flowers still need some work). the background PP is Sassafrass from that Mystery Box I bought last fall.  (I have had so much fun with all that stuff.  More than I thought I would too!).  Pp strips are Sassafrass, and American Crafts/Dear Lizzy.  I used a mask and some Glimmer Mist, random buttons and OA letter stickers and it is finished!

Sketch it Out!

When I use a sketch, it has to fit me and the way I scrap. I don't work the other way around. I love the work that Ashley does and am very excited about her sketches. Thank you for being generous and sharing your ideas.

This is my LO for her Sketch it Out challenge at Club CK. I kept the original design, but I used larger photos. I was very excited to try matting everything on black CS. I've seen this around a lot lately and LOVE the crispness and clarity it brings to the LO. For these photos, I thought using the black would highlight the red shirt instead of the green grass and blue jeans my son is wearing. The long banners were perfect for a sports LO. Because the photos and banners are larger, I used smaller embellishments, and made the title smaller as well. I chose to sew with twine along the right side of the photos, creating my own chevron, that mimics the stitches on a baseball.

What's so funny?

Out of nowhere he'll start giggling.  It's the best giggle I've ever heard too.  Just once I'd like to be inside his head so I could know what he is thinking and what's so funny! I love these pictures.  But what else is new.  I like every picture where he is smiling.  When he smiles, I smile. That's just the way it works.

I kept is simple, creating a photo block with the 4 photos.  Bella Blvd PP, MME journal tag, OA and Sassafrass letters, random buttons.  I got these metal clips in a mystery box swap.  They are so fun and have lots of uses!  Today I wanted to wrap the twine through them to create a frame around the photos. I wrapped brown all the way around.  Then I added green twine on the horizontal lines, and orange on the vertical ones. Done!

Late Nite Scrappin'

Yesterday I had the pleasure of a little late nite scrap session.  Yes, all by myself.  I surfed around a bit too. I feel like I am finally getting back on track.  My room is cleaned out, but I have a list of things I want to change in my room, Slowly but surely, I am making these changes, as well as saving time to scrap!

So, last night I was able to sit down and dive back into my pile of photos waiting to be scrapped.  I did two pages!  Both happen to have my younger son as the main subject.

Sometimes I am ok with a few photos on a page.  Most of the time though, I like to use 3 or more.  That's when can get confused and need some guidance. I print all of my photos in 4x6.  I know that can limit the amount on a single page.  I am just figuring out how to get the most out of iPhoto, so now I can print odd size photos at home!  The first LO I finished, I used One-Page Sketch #2 from Sketch Support.  I changed the orientation from horizontal to vertical and used multiple PPs.  The photos are fairly busy and not well focused on my son, so I left the embellishments to a minimum.  I stitched the stars in white, then outlined the centers in stickles.

CS is Bazzill, PP & journal tag are Echo Park, Ribbon-American Crafts, letter stickers are Pebbles and CosmoCricket. 

The second page I finished, I used a sketch from LoveJoyPaper.com. Again, I changed the orientation. I  omitted the border edge and in it's place put the border sticker.  The photos and PP were busy, so I also left out the third accent photo. The large gear overlapping the bottom of the right photo kind of takes its place.   The round accents really played into the title.  

PP and stickers are Kaiserkraft.  Letters are October Afternoon and American Crafts Thickers.

All About Me

This month I have been taking the All About Me class over at BPC.  It's hard! Not only do I have to take a self portrait, I have to write about myself! And that's only the first assignment!  But that's why I am taking the class right?  Well, we are on week three now, and I am only just finishing and posting the first assignment.  Take a self portrait, write all about yourself and create a LO.  We were even given a sketch.  There was lots of writing involved. How do you see yourself, how do others see you are a couple of examples.  We were to then take the best of what we wrote and use that as the journaling of the LO. Taking the photo was really no big deal. I took this a few weeks a go right after I had my hair cut.

I have spent the last few weeks thinking and writing, gathering my supplies, but not really putting it together.  I spent most of the day yesterday on my computer, once again browsing challenge blogs.  Sometimes I just like to see what ideas I can use from them, sometimes I really want to participate.  This week it was both!

I don't do very frilly feminine pages very often, but I wanted to for this assignment.  So thank you for the inspiration to Frosted Designs, for the Friday Challenge to use 'wings' on your LO and to ScrapFit for the Step Class idea of making my own stick pins.  I used these paper butterflies that I love and never use, making one into a pin just using glue dots to stick it together.  Lastly, I always look to see if I can do the Club Ck weekly One Hour Challenges.  Yesterday the idea was 'Grace' and to use something different on your LO.  I made the flower using a Gluber, the lace, the butterflies and the stick pins are all things that do not regularly appear on my pages.  I was finally able to complete my week 1 assignment!

Always a Challenge!

It's been about a week since I sat down to scrap! I have lots of ideas floating in my head.  I finally wrote some down so I would't lose them.  I'm beginning to have a process!  I some time perusing a few challenge blogs, looked throughout my photos and made some decisions.  

ScrapFit Challenge #63 has a wonderful sketch that fits within my realm that I wanted to use. The tried and true challenge that I participate in every week, is the Issue Challenge at Club CK.  I was struggling to decide on my inspiration, a daily task. I thought about putting on the orthotics every morning, and the three dingy, greying velcro strips on each one.  I thought about the water droplets on the glass shower that I have to squeegee every morning.  Then is came to me....NutraGrain Bars.  I've been getting them out of the pantry every day for YDS breakfast for about 5 years. We buy the big boxes at Costco hat have AppleCinnamon, Blueberry and Strawberry flavors in Green, Blue, and Red packages.  So, I got out the ScrapFit sketch, my pictures, some PP scraps, some spray ink and whipped up this page.  I like how it turned out.

Snuck one in!

I am supposed to be cleaning and organizing my scrap room among other things.  But when I saw the Club CK One Hour Challenge-use circles, was at a time when I could participate, I had to do it!  So I did!  Not only did I write my journaling before I had a title, I realized they Frosted Designs 3/2 Friday Challenge is Numbers!  So for the first time ever, I took my title from my journaling.  I never do that! Voila! Double Whammy! 2 really fun creative challenges.

I used a sketch that I found on Pinterest by Jana Eubank.  I'm always looking for ideas on how to use one vertical and one horizontal photo.  My PP are Echo Park and MME. The big circle chipboard is MAMBI that I painted with Making Memories paint.  I painted the banner cycles with Glimmer Mist, but they came out really flat so I added Stickles around the edge to jazz them up a bit.  The number are Thickers, the letters and word circles are MAMBI.  The small chipboard dots are Fancy Pants.  Ribbon is unknown.  Twine is MME and the journal tag is also EP.  Ok, back to work now.  Playtime is over.

LOAD Aftermath: It's Project Month

My totals for LOAD were 25 single page LOs, 7 double page LOs for a total of 32 LO's, (or 39 'pages' if that's how you count them).    So why does't it feel like I made even the tiniest dent in my stash?

I had a really fun time working on LOAD this time.  Some prompts made me think and they were hard to do, but I'll just lump those into the "Creativity Heals" group. (thanks CK). I don't think I came away with any startling discoveries about my 'style'.  I really tried to give myself an hour each day to do my project, so it was kind of like a daily One Hour Challenge. I would quickly decide on my photo, story, PP and embellies and just stick with it, (which is my same MO for Ck OHCs). There were quite a few days where I wasn't feeling it or were time pressed, so I used some 1/2 finished, pre-made pages.  They were really a life saver.  It made me think that maybe I should put some 'kits' together for next time.  Maybe even a few 'go to' sketches for those kinds of days.  All in all, I am very happy with my results.  If nothing else, I proved to myself that not only could I do a L O A D, but I could also make the time for myself, for ME to do it.  I think that is just as important, if not more so.

So now, after a month of scrappy indulgence, it's time to clean up.  The only place the stayed relatively neat is my desk.  After i finish a LO, I put the stuff away that I used so I have a clean area to begin again.  This is what my scrap room looks like.

Last night I put all the LO's in the right albums. and this afternoon, I'm beginning to put stuff away. 

I decided I will re-organize as well.  That will be project #1.  As I've had a chance to use my room a lot lately, I am finding there are some 'go to' items that need to be in better places.  I don't think it will be too bad.  Just moving a few things around.  Ha! we'll see!

Project # 2 and #3 are pretty similar.  I have an album from our trip to Disneyworld in Jan 2006 that needs journaling desperately.  The same thing goes for my album from my 40th Birthday Party. Beautiful pages, with no words on them!  I'm one who has too many things going at one time, and get eager and excited to start something new.  So many things go unfinished for a long time.  One thing I've really appreciated about Club CK, is in order to post in my gallery or a challenge, things have to be finished all the way.  I'm hoping to finish those two books this month.  I'll still be doing my LO's for the Club CK challenges though!  but I don't think I'll hit 32 again for a while.

The Last LOAD #29-Dragon Tales

First I want to say thank you for those that have followed me long my journey. Your support and comments meant a lot to me and I am grateful.  This is The Last One.  I made it.  It was a lot of fun and I did not in any way put stress on myself to do this.  There was a day or so when I did not feel like scrapping, so I didn't.  I was able to complete more than 29 LO's this month and for that, I am very proud of myself.  Today's LOAD prompt is: Once in a Blue Moon.  What were things that didn't happen very often.  Well, in my house that would have meant a box of sugar cereal appeared on the shelf, but it isn't really possible to scrap that today.

After the 'Cow' craze in Chicago, Naperville decided to do it's own version.  There were Giraffes, Fairies, Pigs, and this year, it was Dragons.  Fitting for a little boy who loved the show Dragon Tales.   I have these photos of a day I spent with my son wandering around Naperville looking at and taking pictures of all the Dragons. Because, it isn't very often that Dragons are wandering around your town...

I used yet another unfinished class LO.  I said I had about 50 and I meant it.  They definitely came in handy this month, especially on days when I wasn't feeling creative and/or pressed for time. I had printed both 4x6 and a collage of the photos. My plan was to use a combination of them and this page was great for that.  I added Thickers for the title, some green Stickles, and inked the edge of the journaling block.

I think tomorrow, after I have decompressed (and cleaned my scrap room!!!) I will write down some thoughts about LOAD.  If you are interested at all, you should check out www.layoutaday.com or www.scraphappy.org

LOAD #28-Toothless

I can't believe I only have one more day!  I think I did pretty well. I got behind twice, but got all caught up. I went off topic today. LOAD prompt #28 is: screen time. It could be anything about my first time at the movies, first computer etc.  I don't have any photos of that kind of stuff so I did something different.  My friend has a sketch challenge on her blog this month lovejoypaper.com and I really wanted to participate.  Frosted Designs Friday Challenge to use a geometric shape 3+ times was also on my radar.  I have these silly pictures of my son after he pulled his tooth out that I wanted to use and it all fell into place.

I kept everything pretty similar, but I moved the title to the top in place of more shaped embellies.

LOAD #26 & 27

Nearing the finish line! I sat on the couch all afternoon watching Oscar stuff so I didn't post yesterday's page.  LOAD #26-Girl Crush was so much fun for me to do!  Because, well, Donny Osmond was my guy.  ok. I liked Marie too.  I watched the show every Friday, had all their albums and pictures on my wall.  My Dad worked for Mattel Toys when I was little. He brought me to the photo shoot for the Donny & Marie dolls so I got to meet them.
I dug in my ever handy box of unfinished class LO's only to discover this black and white number that worked really well with my photo.  We had made the crepe paper flower in class.  I added some purple ink, brads, Thickers and that was it.

Today's LOAD #27 prompt is pets. I had the best cat growing up.  He just really was.  I got him for my 9th birthday. Kind of.  I did get a kitten for my birthday, but he was sick and died 6 days after I got him. My friend's cat had just had kittens, and I was able to have one of hers.   We all loved Charlie Brown. No other cat will ever be like him.  Both cats are on the LO.  

Another unfinished class LO for this one.  These pages have been great for all the girly LO's I've been doing.  (My pile is actually beginning to thin out).

Lots of LOADs- #21-#25

Got a little off track this week but I am all caught up now.  Darn that real life!  Some of the LOAD prompts I did not follow.  I am only using photos that I have already printed, so if I don't have one that fits the prompt, I have to do something else.

Starting with today's LOAD #25 prompt: I feel like I am...not going there today.  I will do that another time.  I know i could keep it really light and finish it with something like 'lucky', but nope, just not doing this one today.  So, again, i went to my handy little pile and chose some fun photos of DH and YDS.  I have had these photos marked for a LO I wanted to do for Scrapbookers Anonymous letter 'G' challenge. I used Green Doodlebug background paper, Green and Brown Glimmer Mist on some of the Jenni Bowlin chipboard banner pieces, Green twine, Glitter, by Stickles outlines the banner, Green Colorbox ink around the PP and to color some of the chipboard banner pieces, and finally 5 'G' words (goofy, grinning, giggling, glasses wearing guys)  using Green CC tiny type letters and more Green ink on the stamps.  A little MME die cut PP cut in half and journal tag, done.  The sketch is adapted from SBE 10/10 pg46

LOAD #21:My Hometown. I didn't have anything I wanted to use for this...right now anyway.  I can think if some places I used to frequent, but I'll save that idea for another time.  I interpreted it with a bunch of menus I kept from our favorites restarts in Chicago.  I made a pocket with a MME die cut paper, used adhesive and a few extra stitches, added a Scenic Route die cut, some CC tiny type letters my own "recipe card" and I am finished.  I will tuck in the menus when I put the page in a protector.

LOAD #22: Holidays. This was a fun one and it really is also for Club CK Issue Challenge #9.  Hanukkah was always a huge daily celebration.  There was one day when the whole family wold gather at either our house or at Nani and Momo's.  the gift pile was out of control.  Momo handed out the gifts one at a time.  Somehow, but then end of the pile, Momo was wearing some sort of ribbon "hat" on his head.  I had to keep this simple because I used 10 old discolored photos. I rotated the design from the left page to the right and balanced it by added 2 paper strips; one for the title, the other for the journaling.  I added below to brighten it up.  

LOAD #23: Road Trip.  I don't have any photos of trips from when I was a kid, and I didn't feel like doing just one page from a more recent trip, so I just went along with a pile of photos I've been working on.  Just taking advantage of a rare warm spring day in May in 2006.  I was able to use yet another unfinished class LO from CKC.  This is all from the BG Picadilly Collection.

And finally, LOAD #24-Numbers. I loosely interpreted this one.  I've had these items for almost 3 years thatI bought at a Scrapbook Expo in Chicago.  I have already finished the boys' baby albums, so they've just been sitting around wishing to be used.  I didn't add his birthday for privacy reasons.  It will go under the big glittery letter 'E'.

Phew, only 4 days left.  Good thing too.  My scrap room is a MESS!

LOAD #20-Fashionistas?

Ok, I had to laugh when I saw the LOAD day 20 prompt: Fashion Plate!  Growing up in the 70's and then high school and college in the 80's, there are some fashion trends that I whole heartedly participated in.  Looking back, most of them don't seem so fashionable....I went digging in my box of high school and college photos, the first ones I came across were my high school friends and I in our Vuarnet sunglasses , but then I found a bunch of pictures from college. I was struck by the HAIR, and the SHOULDER PADS first.  Then I took a closer look at the clothes themselves.  Seriously BAD fashion.  But we thought we were cool.

At the same time we were moving, my LSS was closing.  I found some very bright PP by Rusty Pickle.  It reminded me of Dr. Seuss books.  I had no idea how I would use it, but I had to have it.  I found a use for it here.  I also found a use for the pink/black tiger stripe Thickers!  I used my Fiskars wave punch.  It made me think of New Wave music. I used some of the yellow PP behind the wave. Glitter and bling were necessary here too.  A very fun LO to do. And to think I made fun of the clothes my parents used to wear....

Ahhhh, Finally!  I've actually had this one finished for a few days, but I knew I might need it to help someone out over at Club CK.  So this was LOAD day 14 prompt: Love Lasts.  I got the idea for this LO from a Starbucks card.  It struck me as something I could turn into a LO.  I have a few photos of DH and I from when we were dating that I could have used, but this one was more current.  I added a few extra details, especially when I saw the ScrapFit Challenge #62, use 'XO' on your LO.  It just naturally fit right in. I painted a variety of different sized chipboard hearts. I added glitter, Stickles, flock and Glossy Accents to a few of them to vary the look and give them different texture.

Here is a closeup of the Tiny Type letter stickers I added to the heart on the border strip.  I also wrote 'xoxo' in the journailing
