The Pipe

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Good Wednesday morning to you! It is reveal day over at Child's Play Challenges. Our first challenge this month is a crafty one...Pipe Cleaners!

I went in a more serious direction for this challenge. Yes, as a child, I played with pipe cleaners. But the truth is, pipe cleaners make me think of my Grandfather, whom I called Momo.  As far back as I can remember, Momo smoked a pipe. I used to watch him clean them, fill them with tobacco, then light them. When I got older I even bought him tobacco for Father's Day and other special occasions.  For whatever reason, the smell of his pipe tobacco never bothered me. But I never liked the smoke. These photos are older, and not great quality, but in all the photos, Momo has a pipe.

I chose a simple design for the photos. I had a really hard time finding colors due to the discoloration of the photos. White was too stark, so I settled on ivory card stock matte.  The photos still got a bit lost, so I doodled a frame around them. My memories of Momo or happy, so I chose red as the foundation.  I added a small strip of striped paper, as well as some other scraps to balance the patterns. There are some small details around the page; the photo corners, small pieces of washi tape and the paint splatters.  The journaling is hidden under the matter on the right. The piece of washi is the pull tab on the card.

I hope you can created a project based on pipe cleaners.  Come by and join us at Child's Play Challenges, and show us what you did.

Scrapbook Generation Quarterly Blog Hop

Monday, March 3, 2014

It's Blog Hop time!  Welcome to the Scrapbook Generation Blog Hop for March.  You should have arrived here from Steffanies's Blog.  If this is your first stop, you might like to go back to the Scrapbook Generation blog and then hop through each link from there.

I chose a sketch from the SG 2 page sketchbook  Volume 5.  I liked the simplicity of the sketch, but the ability to change it up as much or as little as I wanted.

For this page in particular, I liked the strips of paper. For me, they worked well with the photos of my son the day he got his braces.  I chose to use shades of grey in  a variety of geometric patterns. Again, it emphasizes the braces.  It needed some color so I chose to add red and turquoise. They were fun and contrast the grey nicely.  I moved the placement of the title and embellishments around. lastly I added some extra color by matting the LO on turquoise patterned paper.

You can find the SG sketches in their books and as downloads in the SG store, and there is a free one every month in case you wanted to try it out.

Next on the hop is Melissa. Please leave a comment on each blog and one lucky commenter will receive a free sketch bundle of their choice from the store. The winner will be drawn on Monday, March 10th, so you have one week to leave a comment.

In case you get lost at any point, here is the list all the blogs

Calvinball

Friday, February 28, 2014

Oh, if you know me, you know that I am a lifelong Calvin and Hobbes fan. Calvinball anyone?

Hmm, what's that you say? Why don't we make Calvinball a scrapbooking game?  I'm in!  Totally not my idea. I'm playing along online with a group of friends. The game begins March 1 and will run through March 31.  I will be posting completed projects here on my blog all month and tagging them with Calvinball.  Let the games begin!
