Fun & Adventure

Wednesday, January 25, 2017

Hey there! Wednesdays are Product Spotlight days at paper issues. Today we are highlighting Shimelle's Go Now Go!  I love her lines and this one doesn't disappoint. It's got travels, fall, pink, you name it and it's in there. It's one of the things I love most about Shimelle. There is something in it for everyone.

I began with the Picnic paper as my background. The World paper brightens the corner, and I layered both the Park and Here papers under the photo. I love all the embellishment choices too! Glittery phrase Thickers, and stickers are some of what's on my page!

I had the pleasure of meeting a former PI girl when she breezed through town on her way to her vacation destination. I love when cyber becomes reality! So really, she is the one who was having the adventure, but I got to partake in some of the fun. This page is a little of both!

Thans for stopping by my creative view today. Hop on over to the Paper Issues store to get some Shimelle's Go Now Go of your own as well as many if the other NEW American Crafts lines that came in yesterday!  Use code DEVRA for 20% off your purchase too!

Love U 4 Ever

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Woot Woot! It's time for another Paper Issues Product Spotlight.  Today we are featuring the fun and happy Crate Paper Heart Day!

Me? I LOVE hearts. And Pink. If you've noticed, I'm not a sappy scrapper. I like to show my life in fun and silly ways. This collection gives me that opportunity in so many ways!  For this page I started with an awesome FREE Love Script cut file that I cut and stitched. The Happy Hearts paper is my favorite paper in this collection, also the perfect one to layer behind the heart.  I layered more papers and pieces of the ephemera die cuts behind my photo. The variety of layered stickers, chipboard and cardstock stickers give me never ending ways too add to my pages!

My guys are my world. As they get older, that doesn't change. What does is the reality that they wont be with me forever. So, every little moment, and every little selfie counts as a reminder to all of us. There. Sappy & silly.

Now, you need to get some Heart Day to play with right now!  Go directly to the Paper Issues store and use code DEVRA to get 20% off your purchase!

Good morning!  On the Get It Scrapped blog today we are talking about using a Clean and Simple design to speed up your scrapbooking process.

I don't often use a clean and simple approach when I scrapbook.  I did I find it easier to design and select product in a shorter amount of time. What I found difficult was leaving the page alone. I wanted to add more embellishments. Many of my designs are simple, but generally, I like to add more product to my pages. I can see myself trying this again, especially if I don't have a lot of time to create.

My son's best buddy came to visit shortly after we moved away. We kept them busy by touring our new city. It was heartwarming to see them pick up their friendship where they left off.

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today. I appreciate you following me along my crafty journey.

Velcro or Glue?

Sunday, January 15, 2017

Hey there! Devra here! Anyone out there a fan of puns? I am! Today I have a project featuring the  absolutely punny Pebbles My Funny Valentine collection.

I love hearts. They make me happy. And really, is there a better way to show the love between a boy and his Mama? I think not.  I started with the FREE  Open Hearts Circles cut file. I filled in the hearts with both sides of the XOXO,  and Heart Fest  papers. I used the Scattered Hearts  paper under my photo.

See that piece of ephemera there in the title? That is the whole reason I bought the ephemera pack and these papers. Yep. That's right. My kiddo is the complete definition of a Mama's boy. I say he's attached to me with velcro almost daily. But holy cow. When I saw the 'I love you' and 'I love you more' I was giddy.

What's a page about love with out sparkly, shiny, glittery, hearts? I tell you these glitter hearts finished off the page nicely for me. Truly, one can never have to many glitter hearts.

Now that I've spilled my heart out (get it), go get some of this Pebbles My Funny Valentine collection using the code DEVRA fro save 20% on your order. Then join our Product Spotlight challenge in the Paper Issues Friends and Fans Facebook group. We love to see what you create!

We Survived 2016

Saturday, January 14, 2017

Good morning to you! In Paper Issues world, we call today Cut It Up Saturday. That means there is a new free, that's right, FREE cut file available in the shop today! Isn't it fun?!?

Here is what I did with it. I had seen another cut file that said we survived and thought, "wow, I need to do something with that".  So I took the idea and used it here!  I did a bit of a 'year in review', with the Bella Blvd Oh My Stars. The layout is fairly simple and easy to put together. I matted each photo, layering it over one larger matte. I added the tabs and tags, and journaled a brief description of the photo. I layered a transparency under the center of the '0' to add a little more color to the top of the page, as well as making sure that part of the title popped.  A few bits and paint splats finished it off nicely.

2016 was not my favorite. Far from it.  I thought his was a good way to capture some highlights, and lowlights in a way that wasn't dark or sad. there are 3 'good' things, and 3 to so good things, but all 6 created many feelings and emotions. None of which were easy to handle. So yes indeed, we survived 2016. On to 2017, may it be a much better year for everyone!

Now it's your turn to join the challenge. Go get yourself this cut file , and while you are in the shop, pick yourself up a few treats, Use the code DEVRA for 20% off your order

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. Come back soon for more examples of my crazy life!

Perfectly Imperfect

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

Hello again! The article on the Get It Scrapped blog today is Ah-Mazing! I am so pleased to be a part of it. The subject of today's inspiration is Wabi Sabi.

"The Wabi-Sabi style is built on the idea that "nothing lasts, nothing is finished, nothing is perfect--and that is a good thing." The style limits itself to the essentials, but at the same time focus on the imperfections, textures and details of those essentials.

To a stranger, our family is not perfect. This photo is not perfect. To us, our family is perfect just the way it is.

I was inspired by the "embrace the imperfection" concept of Wabi Sabi, and used it in a very literal way on my page to demonstrate my story. I combined a floral pattern wood grain paper with textured corrugated paper to surround the photo. Half of the page is neat and orderly, representing perfection. The other half is chaotic, with torn and distressed paper, and mismatched embellishments, the imperfect part of the page and story.  Red is not necessarily representative of Wabi Sabi, but it is of the emotion of the page. By using the same colors and similar patterns, the two sides of the page appear cohesive.

I have to laugh at the effort it takes to get a good family photo. Sometimes, the more we try, the worse they get. So we take what we can get and move on. Wabi-Sabi indeed.

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. I have much more to share, so come back again soon

I'm talking to you!

Well hello there. This is the first of a two post day.  On today's agenda is this little number for this month's Roll the Dice Challenge at Paper Issues. This month the dice rolled double 4's. So, 4 photos, and 4 words in the title.

As you can see, I do not follow directions very well.  I used 5 photos. They are small though and grouped together.  But I did stick to the 4 words in the title. I wanted to make a bold statement on this page because it's something I want to remember. Crate paper Cool Kid seems to fit what I wasted to do. I mixed and layered several papers, adding ephemera die cuts, cardstock stickers, puffy stickers and chipboard. Look! No cardstock on this page. Anyway, I chose embellishments that helped tell my story. That's how I roll. The roaring dinosaur is layered over the alphabet transparency, like talking. Lightning bolts to emphasize importance, bright eye catching colors.

In all honesty, because this is a story about my son using his iPad to talk to me, I couldn't choose one photo to eliminate. He was trying very hard to tell me he wanted to go home, so he told me in as many ways as he could to get his point across. Oh, I got his point all right. He just wasn't getting his way and that was difficult to convey to him. Patience is not his strong suit.

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today. I expect this to be another busy week, so come back again soon. Remember when shopping in the Paper Issues store to use my code DEVRA when you check out to receive 20% offf your purchase!

Bloom

Saturday, January 7, 2017

Good morning! Today is Sketchy Saturday at Paper Issues! Boy do we have am awesome sketch for you!

Ok, ok, I know its winter, but I am optimistic that spring will be here soon. Besides, I couldn't wait to use the beautiful new Hazelwood collection, and that I did!  These papers and embellishments ate so amazing and such a different style that I usually gravitate to. I used so many things!  5 different papers, ephemera die cuts, puffy stickers, cardstock stickers, enamel triangles and even the cork phrases!  I moved around the embellishment placement, but pretty much left the rest of the sketch alone.  The result is this fresh springlike page that I love!

This kiddo of mines the happiest person I know. I'm sure he doesn't know his limitations, or even that he has any. He tackles each day with energy and determination, and always with a smile of his face.

If I were you, I'd grab some of this Hazelwood from the  Paper Issues shop now using the code DEVRA for 20% off your order. then add your sketch project in the Paper Issues Friends and Fans  Facebook group for your chance to win a  gift card to the shop!

Thanks for stopping by my creative view today. There is so much going on, you dont want to miss anything so come back again soon.

January 2017-Pinspire Me

Thursday, January 5, 2017

Hello there! Yes! I'm back again! 4 days in a row sharing yet another new page!  Today the new  Pinspire Me challenge is up at Paper Issues. Isn't it beautiful?

This board spoke to me in so many ways. I had several ideas, and at the very last minute the "page 1 of 365" inspired the story of my page. The gold and black inspired the colors and products.  I grabbed some black and white prints from my Bella Blvd Stash to create the background and all the layers. I wanted a little bit of color, so I dug into the embellishments from the Oh My Stars collection choosing the turquoise pieces. I found some gold frames so I tucked those in there to for good measure. From there I just added some enamel and epoxy stars, a few brads and called it a day. I love the pop of color, but mostly I love the black and white. It's clean and fresh.

My scrap space became the holiday dumping space during the month of Dec. I couldn't take it anymore. I snuck away to tidy it up. One of the items in the dump was my new WRMK silver album I chose for this years pages of memories. After I cleared out the boxes, picked up the stuff off the floor and cleaned off my desk, I set up the album and laid it on my nice clean desk. There. Now I am ready to start 2017.

Thanks for joining me  and my creative view again today. Did I give you any ideas? Need some other inspiration? Head to the Paper Issues shop to pick up some new things for yourself and use my coupon code DEVRA for 20% off your order.

Brat Pack -Take 5 Tuesday

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

Hey there! So, one of the things I love most about Paper Issues is there are so many challenges every month. That means I have an opportunity to create often!  Today is Take 5 Tuesday . I love that this is our take on a 'recipe' challenge. Basically, choose at least 5 items on this list to add to your project. It can be card, LO, planner, whatever inspires you. Here is this months list:

For my page I used cardstock, patterned paper, more than 1 photo, black, tags and layers.  I knew these bright papers from the Bella Blvd Alex collection would require a simple white background. I love the black contrasting with the bold papers, especially after I layered them up 😉. This collection also came with tags and die cuts. Score! Even easier to complete the page from the list!

Every year when school starts, I never know if it's going to be a good experience for my son or not. Several years in a row, he had a new teacher and new staff, so we never had a chance to get used to anyone or get into any familiar routine. Finally, in middle school, he was placed with an aide who would work with him daily. He got into a routine, and enjoyed going to school. He liked school so much, that the first day of winter break, he went to closet, got his backpack, and wouldn't let it go. Wherever he went, it went too, even to bed. And so it went...

Thanks so much for stopping by my creative view today. Head over to Paper Issues today to see more Take 5 Tuesday  team projects. If you feel like doing a little shopping, you can get a 20% discount using my code DEVRA when you check out.

Sleep (all) Over

Monday, January 2, 2017

Hey there and Happy New Year! This year is off to a bang up start for me! In case you missed my exciting news yesterday, I am back as a member of the Paper Issues Design Team. Today I am sharing my first project as part of our brand new Issue: Stashbusters.

What is Stashbusters? Here are some ideas:

  • It's a new year, so make a dent in your stash! What are you hoarding? Is it an old collection? Is there a paper you think is too pretty to cut into? Do you have embellishments you haven't even opened? Get to work creating a project that includes something you haven't used yet or finishes off a collection by using up the scraps.
  • Show us anything about your New Year's celebrations.
  • Scrap a photo of yourself.
I finally broke into the Simple Stories Posh collection that has been sitting on my shelf since September. That dog was the perfect element for my page. I started with a couple of the 3x4 cards. I layered patterned paper to complement the cards, and added embellishments to help the story along.  Now I wasn't to use more of this line!

There are several more beautiful Stashbusters projects from the team on the Paper Issues blog as well as all the info you need about creating and linking up your projects.  I hope to see you join the challenge. When you stop by the blog, m stop by the Paper Issues store to stick up on some scrappy goodies. Be suer to sue my code DEVRA for 20% off your order.

Paper Issues

Sunday, January 1, 2017

Let this be one of the first times I say Happy New Year! I'm starting the year off right with some fabulous news to share today.  I am returning to the Paper Issues Design Team! I'm thrilled to be back designing alongside some familiar faces and am excited to work along side a group of new faces as well. I'm looking to much creating and sharing over the next few months.

I'm jumping right in with my first layout as part of the team.  I created  this for our weekly Scraplift Sunday challenge. This week we are lifting this wonderful page by Mary Ann Jenkins

Here is my version. I love scrap lifting, especially when I'm not feeling the mojo. This was a great place for me to begin. I added a few extra paper strips and different size photos, but left the rest the same. The high energy colors and patterns were so right to highlight my son's crazy antics. Who he is motivated, he will stop at nothing to get what he wants. In this case it was his latest obsession, gears.

Thanks for celebrating the new year and my new gig with me. I plan on making crafting a priority this year, so some back often to see what I've been creating.
